Job Description Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Gastroenterologist or Consultant Hepatology within the Department of Gastroenterology & Hepatology based at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth. This is a new post to support increased demand for our secondary and tertiary care services. Applicants with sub‑specialty interests are encouraged to apply and there are opportunities to support and enhance services across the breadth of Gastroenterology.
You will join an enthusiastic and cohesive team of 16 Consultant Gastroenterologists and Hepatologists working in one of the largest acute hospitals in the country, serving a catchment population of approximately 675,000 people.
The new University of Portsmouth Medical School opened in September 2024 and there are excellent opportunities for teaching and clinical research.
Portsmouth provides easy access to beautiful countryside including the South Downs and New Forest National Parks. There are excellent seaside and sailing facilities and the city is only an hour and a half from central London. The area offers all the lifestyle opportunities of metropolitan, rural and coastal life.
The successful candidate will be employed under the terms and conditions of service for Consultants (England) 2003. Applicants should be on the GMC specialist register via CCT, CESR or European Community Rights.

Qualifications Qualifications
Full GMC registration with a licence to practice
MRCP or equivalent
Higher Degree (e.g. MD/PhD)
Sub‑specialty accreditation in Hepatology
