A Personal Assistant is required in the Leeds 10 area to support Hercules, a six year old boy with Down’s syndrome and a range of other disabilities, to access community activities. The role includes personal care needs such as toileting, washing, dressing, feeding, light cleaning duties, and assistance with accessing leisure activities. Hercules uses assistance from a wheelchair and a special buggy, and may become overwhelmed by sensory difficulties. The assistant will work flexible hours: approximately 4 hours per week during term time, including evenings and weekends, flexible around therapies and after school activities. A fit, patient, calm individual who understands disability and communication needs is essential.
Desired skills include Makaton, first aid, moving and handling, experience with children with Down’s syndrome or other learning disabilities, and a UK driving licence is preferred. A DBS check is required. The role has a 12‑week probationary period, with a rate of £12.40 per hour and pro‑rated paid holidays.
