Role: Senior IT Support Engineer

Salary: £35,000-£40,000
Work pattern: 5 days a week on site
Overview
An established organisation is seeking a skilled Senior IT Support Engineer to lead the delivery of day-to-day IT infrastructure operations and provide a high level of technical support. This position plays a critical role in maintaining system integrity, ensuring seamless service delivery, and supporting the development of junior team members.
The role combines hands-on technical responsibilities with leadership and mentorship, offering significant opportunities for career progression - technically or a management pathway. The successful candidate will also have access to an in-house development team and a culture that prioritises internal promotion.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Support
* Provide guidance and support to junior engineers through regular mentoring, training, and development planning.
* Assist with onboarding new IT staff and support team performance reviews and feedback cycles.
* Lead or contribute to team meetings and participate in management-level discussions.
* Help align team activities with wider business goals.
Technical Operations
* Deliver 2nd and 3rd line IT support and handle complex technical escalations.
* Manage service desk efficiency, ensuring incidents are addressed within agreed SLAs.
* Oversee cloud infrastructure and collaborate with external vendors to maintain service standards.
* Plan and execute IT infrastructure projects in coordination with other business functions.
* Administer and manage user accounts, security settings, and system access within Active Directory and Microsoft 365.
* Ensure ongoing system stability, including backups, network performance, and cybersecurity measures.
* Keep the IT asset register updated and support continual improvement of IT processes and systems.
Required Skills & Experience
Technical Competence
* Demonstrated experience in senior-level infrastructure or 2nd/3rd line support roles.
* Advanced knowledge of Microsoft 365 and Active Directory administration.
* Familiarity with DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and Windows OS.
* Experience with Azure, virtual desktops, and managing servers.
* Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (including switches and wireless).
* Exposure to security tools, vulnerability management, and IT compliance standards.
* Track record of managing third-party IT service providers.
* Experience with project delivery in IT environments.
* Familiarity with telephony systems.

* Strong communication skills, capable of conveying technical information to non-technical users.
