Clinical Nurse Specialist - Rheumatology

Join our dynamic, multi-disciplinary team delivering specialist care to children and young people with juvenile idiopathic arthritis and other inflammatory conditions. Your role will span outpatient clinics, community outreach, and remote support, offering a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact across multiple care settings.
About You
You're a compassionate Registered Nurse (RNC/RN8) with current NMC registration and relevant post-registration qualifications. You bring clinical expertise, mentorship experience, and a passion for delivering age-appropriate care. You're confident in managing complex situations, collaborating across teams, and advocating for children and families.
Main duties of the job
Reporting into the CNS Manager, your responsibilities will include:
* Deliver specialist nursing care across inpatient, outpatient, and community settings
* Provide clinic support, injection teaching, and advice through helpline and email
* Participate in outreach clinics (Rotherham, Chesterfield, Scunthorpe)
* Plan and evaluate complex care pathways in collaboration with MDTs
* Educate patients and families on disease and drug management
* Provide specialist education to other healthcare professionals
* Communicate with schools, GPs, and community nursing teams to support holistic care
* Prepare young people for transition to adult rheumatology services
* Mentor students and junior colleagues, and develop training resources
* Contribute to policy development, clinical audits, and research initiatives
* Prescribe and administer treatments within Trust protocols
* Deputise for the Clinical Nurse Specialist Manager

Qualifications and Training
* RSCN or RN (Child)
* 998 or equivalent teaching certificate
* Paediatric Life Support Certificate
Experience
* experience of caring for children with rheumatology conditions
* Medical and/or Surgical Nursing experience
Knowledge
* Knowledge of Holistic Family centred care using evidence based practices
Skills and Abilities
* Awareness of infection control principles
* Management of own Client Group
* Interest or experience in audit and research
Personal Attributes
* Ability to work alone and as part of a team
* Flexible and adaptable
* Willingness to develop skills
