Glyndebourne has an exciting opportunity for highly experienced Stage Managers to join our Stage Management team on permanent contracts. You will be part of the department's senior team; working alongside the Head of Department and the other Stage Manager to deliver productions to the highest possible standards. The successful candidates will have extensive experience in Stage Management, either in a major theatre or large scale opera production.

In conjunction with the Head of Stage Management, you will supervise the delivery and realisation of various productions and projects for Glyndebourne including Stage Managing at least two operas each festival and at least one opera each Autumn season as well as any other outside projects, concerts or work external to Glyndebourne. You will be part of the senior team within the department that lead from initial development through rehearsals and realisation of each opera. You will work closely and liaise with other production departments and the creative team throughout the whole process. You will also be expected to cover any other roles within the department as required.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

* To ensure that the rehearsals and performances of an allocated production be they either in the rehearsal room or on stage, are run in a smooth, efficient and safe manner and to collaborate with Director, Music team and Technical departments in the running of all rehearsals and performances.
* To oversee the preparation of rehearsal and performance spaces before any company member is called to rehearse or perform.
* To assist and liaise with any task prior to rehearsals/performance in conjunction with Stage Management, Props and other Technical departments
* To liaise with all departments to ensure all relevant information on the production as it develops in rehearsal is communicated to them.
* To arrange and run production meetings, notes and debriefs as required to each productions needs.
* To create production specific risk assessments and method statements as required, and to ensure all safety measures are taken for the performing company both in rehearsal and performance
* To collaborate with the company management in the pastoral support of the performing and creative company and to report on and communicate all Health and Safety concerns and issues to the Health and Safety Officer.
* To ensure that all relevant show file paperwork is complete and up to date and complete the Show Report after each performance.
* To manage any unforeseen issues in performance in conjunction with the Duty Director and Staff Director to include stopping the performance and restarting where required.
* To complete any training as required by Glyndebourne
* To report to the Head of Stage Management.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential

* You should have extensive experience or formal educational qualifications in Stage Management with strong and confident score reading
* Proactive and energetic, with a record in the delivery of productions at the highest artistic and technical level.
* Dedicated and committed with excellent focus and organisational skill, with the ability to demonstrate these across several projects simultaneously.
* Aware of the latest techniques and relevant regulations as applied to preparation and staging of major repertoire.
* An excellent and confident communicator. Resilient and with the ability to demonstrate and communicate enthusiasm and professionalism in all aspects of the job.
* To be physically active for long periods of time in the support of performers, production and technical staff

Hours of Work

The contractual hours are based on 40 hours per week.The job-holder needs to be flexible with working hours including evening and weekend duties.

We can offer a competitive salary. Salaries are reviewed annually on the 1st January.
