Overview

Senior Early Careers Resourcing Partner at UK Research and Innovation. This is a permanent, full-time role based at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, Harwell, Oxfordshire. Assessment Centre: December 2025 / January 2026.


About the Role

ISIS Neutron and Muon Source produces radiation as a by-product of its operational activities. This position offers graduates opportunities to develop their skills in radiation protection across various applications, leveraging a strong numerate background in physics or physical sciences. You will collaborate with colleagues to advise scientists and engineers on design and upgrades to facilities, undertake shielding calculations, minimise radiation dose, advise on safe radioactive waste disposal, apply regulatory controls, and engage with regulatory authorities.

Note: The STFC Graduate Scheme provides technical training and career development, mentoring, and support towards achieving professional recognition or chartered status.


Key Duties & Responsibilities

Our graduates will support Radiation Protection, Health Physics and Radioactive Waste management across the ISIS teams in areas including:

* Calculating and modelling radiation source terms for scientific experiments/facilities; monitoring personal doses and minimising risk by applying ALARP principles
* Interpretation and application of radiological protection data
* Provision of Health Physics service to personnel in radiation environments
* Shielding and dose calculations/modelling
* Ensuring BAT principles relating to radioactive waste are applied
* Managing safe storage and disposal of radioactive wastes
* Managing safe transport of radioactive materials, on and off-site

There will be placements and training to understand each area with potential for later specialisation. Candidates will be encouraged to understand relevant legislation and guidance, including IRR17, EPR10 and CDG.


Qualifications & What We’re Looking For

* Achieved, or on track to achieve, a minimum 2:1 degree in a relevant field of study
* Right to live and work in the UK at start of employment
* Good communication skills with ability to influence at all levels
* Strong organisational skills and initiative
* Willingness to learn new skills (technical and non-technical)
* Creative and proactive problem solving with an analytical approach
* Good teamwork and ability to work independently
* Open-minded and flexible regarding work assignments
