Job overview
Food is more than a subject at NESSSS — it's where everything comes together. It's the place our pupils shine brightest, build confidence, and discover success. Now, we're looking for a skilled, passionate teacher who can lead this vital subject and help us shape lives through food.
At The North East Surrey Short Stay School (NESSSS), we work with pupils who've faced barriers to education. Many arrive disengaged or anxious. But something special happens in the kitchen — it's calm, purposeful, and empowering. This is where some of our strongest outcomes are achieved, both in qualifications and personal growth.
We're looking for someone who:
* Believes every child can achieve — with the right support and the right relationships.
* Can deliver hands-on, engaging learning that builds skills and sparks joy.
* Understands the importance of boundaries, humour, flexibility, and calm.
Whether you're an experienced teacher or come from industry with a flair for teaching, you'll find small class sizes (max. 5–6 pupils), a shorter teaching week (80% load), and a highly supportive team that shares your commitment to inclusion, resilience, and pupil wellbeing.
You'll be part of an outstanding vocational team helping pupils gain meaningful qualifications and practical life skills. Your classroom will be well-equipped and valued. This is a subject our pupils love — and we want someone who will love teaching it.
We're proud to offer:
* A strong, caring team that lives our values of Integrity, Respect and Perseverance
* A calm, focused learning environment
* An 80% teaching load — so you can plan well and go home on time
* A generous CPD offer (including routes into further qualification and leadership)
The chance to play a key role in the development of our new, state-of-the-art vocational centre opening in 2027
What our pupils say:
"Food is the best lesson. It's the one time I know I'll do well."
"Cooking makes me feel proud of myself. I want to work in a kitchen one day."
If you're ready to make a real difference — in a school that supports staff as much as it supports students — then NESSSS could be the next step in your journey.
We strongly encourage you to visit us and experience our school in action. We know you'll leave inspired.
