The retinal screening Slit Lamp Examiner is responsible for carrying out Slit lamp Examinations and Level 2 Grading of Diabetic patients screening photographs. The Slit Lamp examiner will be responsible for completing their appointed clinics. The service deals with a high turnover of Diabetic patients. NHS GG&C currently have over 85,000 Diabetic patients registered. The service operates from multiple sites across GG&C Health Board. The successful candidate would be expected to rotate across sites. A driving license is preferred.
The Slit Lamp Examiner is responsible for the smooth running of their clinics. The Slit Lamp Examiner works independently after a period of supervision and screening programme training with management support provided by the Service Manager, clinical coordinator, lead clinician and associate specialist as required.
The post holder will be expected to work collaboratively with the Service Manager, Ophthalmologist and Lead Clinician to ensure effective utilisation of specialised equipment and supplies and to ensure high quality screening services are delivered to the patient. A driving license is preferred. The post holder will be expected to complete the National Diabetic Eye Screening qualification relevant to their role and ongoing training, verification processes and internal/external validation processes.
