We now have an opportunity for a reliable and hardworking Domestic Assistant to join our team at Shotley Bridge Hospital on a fixed-term basis.
About the role
As a Domestic Assistant, you will deliver a high-quality cleaning service within ward areas at Shotley Bridge Hospital. Working to NHS National Cleaning Standards, you will help ensure a safe, hygienic and welcoming environment for patients, visitors and clinical staff.
This is a site-based role on the ward at Shotley Bridge Hospital only – no travel between sites is required. Full training will be provided.
Salary is £25,272 per annum
Key responsibilities
1. Deliver cleaning services in line with NHS policies, procedures and cleaning schedules
2. Clean wards and clinical areas to a high standard, supporting infection prevention
3. Carry out duties such as mopping, vacuuming, dusting, cleaning sanitary ware and internal glass
4. Undertake periodic, deep and terminal cleans when required
5. Safely handle and dispose of clinical and commercial waste
6. Use cleaning equipment and materials safely, following COSHH guidelines
7. Replenish consumables such as soap, towels and toilet tissue
8. Follow NHS colour coding systems and cleaning specifications
9. Report incidents, hazards or maintenance issues using agreed processes
10. Support ward teams with additional duties where required, including kitchen cleanliness and linen support
11. Can handle routine tasks and social interactions within a work environment. Ability to absorb policy and guidance necessary for the role.

Previous cleaning experience is desirable but not essential – full training will be provided.
Hours and working pattern
16. Full time: 37.5 hours per week
17. Fixed-term contract: 6 months
18. Ward-based role at Shotley Bridge Hospital
19. Shift times: 7:00am – 3:00pm
20. Two-week rota including weekends, with every other weekend off
21. One weekday off each week (rotating – e.g. Tuesday one week, Thursday the next)
Applicants do not need to drive, provided they can reliably travel to the site.
