Job Description
The Anglian Water Strategic Pipeline Alliance (SPA) project involves the planning, design and construction of approximately 320km of new strategic, large-diameter clean water interconnector pipelines and associated infrastructure across Anglian Water’s region. The SPA Alliance will also be responsible for future interconnector pipelines, adding another 260km of strategic interconnector pipelines and associated infrastructure.
Role Overview
You will be an Electrical Design Engineer embedded within the SPA delivery team, responsible for several project design outputs, information flow and consistency of approach. Reported to the EICA Discipline Head, you will monitor workload and liaise with Design Managers, Design Leads and other discipline Designers. You will produce and lead detailed electrical design elements and drive consistency across the design package.
The position offers flexible working and is home‑based, however you must attend the Peterborough office once a fortnight.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare single line diagrams, DNO supply applications, generator system specifications, MCC specifications, Electrical Installation Specifications, System Architecture Diagrams, package plant specifications, WIMES datasheets, and review supplier designs.
* Lead the execution of Factory Acceptance Tests, Water Quality Instrumentation, and telemetry systems.
* Contribute to process control, Intelligent P&IDs, 3D models, HAZOP and LOPA studies.
* Develop technical solutions from concept selection through design development to construction status and handover.
* Manage design interactions across solutions, production and delivery phases.
* Promote digital transformation within design, including the creation of a Digital Twin.
* Manage commercial aspects such as estimates, targets and forecasts related to design work.
* Guide the team in producing designs that minimise safety risks in construction and subsequent maintenance.
* Coordinate the production of construction drawings using CAD, BIM and GIS environments.
* Interface with Utilities and Environmental teams, leading stakeholder discussions with power supplies and communications networks.
* Support Solutions, Engineering and Production teams with innovative ideas to achieve efficiencies.
* Apply CAPEX and OPEX decision-making for new solutions.
* Contribute to the procurement model for MEICa, including determining sub‑contractor responsibilities.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
* Experience working in the water industry and within multi-disciplinary teams.
* Demonstrated track record in producing electrical outline and detailed design.
* Strong production thinking; capable of delivering operable and maintainable solutions.
* Understanding of system interoperability and impact of design decisions on SPA control philosophy and performance.
* Experience in outline and detailed design for water industry applications.
* Experience in Design and Build delivery.
* Experience in witness testing.
* Experience in selecting and designing instrumentation, control systems and automation equipment for process environments.
Qualifications
Essential
* Familiarity with BS 7671 latest edition.
* Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
* HNC or degree qualification in electrical engineering.
