Vehicle Technician
City of Wolverhampton Council is seeking a full‑time, permanent Vehicle Technician to join its dynamic Fleet Services team. The role offers training, personal development and the opportunity to work on a typical municipal vehicle fleet, including ground‑maintenance machines, light commercial vehicles, and heavy goods vehicles.
Salary:£36,363 – £40,777 (Grade 6)
Hours: 37 per week
Contract type: Full time, permanent
Work style: Fixed – permanent council location
Role responsibilities
* Inspect, service and repair the council’s fleet of commercial vehicles and mobile plant, carrying out periodic routine roadworthiness inspections.
* Investigate and diagnose mechanical defects, including electrical, transmission, fuel and hydraulic systems, and perform appropriate repairs.
* Ensure all servicing and repair work complies with the council’s Vehicle Operatives Licence and DVSA roadworthiness standards.
* Attend to breakdowns and conduct on‑site repairs or assist in the recovery of broken‑down vehicles and plant in all weathers.
* Transport vehicles to and from specialist repairers, servicing agents and MOT testing stations.
* Accurately complete job cards, service/inspection reports and other required paperwork.
Role requirements
* GCSE level or equivalent qualification.
* City and Guilds Level 2 in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair or equivalent.
* Euro 6 engine and component training.
* Previous employment as a Vehicle Technician.
* Experience with on‑site repairs and vehicle recovery.
* Experience dealing with customers face‑to‑face.
* Broad knowledge of a range of vehicles and equipment.
* Full‑clean UK Driving Licence required.
