Responsibilities
* Proactively patrol the district to monitor and enforce environmental laws, ensuring compliance with regulations related to waste disposal, parking, abandoned vehicles, and public space protection.
* Work with law enforcement agencies to tackle anti-social behaviour.
* Actively involved in public awareness campaigns and provide education on environmental responsibility.
* Engage with local businesses, residents, and community groups to promote sustainable practices and legal compliance.
* Work closely with bailiffs and legal teams to manage unauthorised encampments.
* Engage confidently with the public, handling confrontational situations professionally.
* Provide specialist environmental protection functions across the district, ensuring adherence to UK environmental legislation.
* Conduct enforcement procedures, issuing necessary enforcement notices/actions to individuals and businesses.
* Investigate and manage enforcement cases, preparing reports and evidence for legal proceedings.
* Collaborate with key agencies such as West Mercia Police, the Environment Agency, and Worcestershire County Council to promote effective enforcement.
* Respond professionally and efficiently to customer inquiries and complaints.
* Identify and address issues related to environmental protection.
* Ensure the appropriate use and maintenance of Council vehicles, uniforms, and enforcement equipment.
* Maintain accurate records of enforcement activities, incidents, and investigations.
* The role is offered on a 24-month fixed‑term contract and requires flexible working on a rota basis covering a variety of shifts including weekends, evenings, and some bank holidays and Christmas working.
* The role will require a substantial amount of walking and, for the majority, is a lone‑workers post. All training and equipment will be provided.
* Whilst the role can be challenging, it is also extremely rewarding in working towards a cleaner and safer environment.
* Flexible approach to working hours, able to work outside normal office hours if necessary, including a requirement to be available for evening meetings.
