Locally Employed Doctor - Registrar in Emergency Medicine
2 weeks ago Be among the first 25 applicants
Overview
Emergency Medicine is at the heart of the hospital's emergency care pathway and provides high quality care for patients from the moment they arrive. The department is led by a group of consultants committed to providing high level care and developing the service further. This role will enable the Emergency Department to deliver high quality and timely care in the face of pressures from increased emergency admissions and greater case acuity. The postholder will have the opportunity to work in a brand-new state-of-the-art Emergency Department and receive training in a modern, innovative environment designed to support quality patient care. A consultant-led service provides leadership and patient care on the shop floor 24 hours a day Monday to Friday and 22:00 at weekends, with an aim to enhance weekend cover. The department emphasizes education and training of junior staff both clinically and in nursing, on and off the shop floor.
These roles provide 24/7 registrar cover for a department of this size. This is a Trust-grade post and not part of a formal postgraduate training programme; however, one key benefit is increased senior shop floor presence with time for learning and support comparable to postgraduate training.
Key Responsibilities
These posts are part of the Trust’s aim to deliver high quality emergency care. A full-time substantive post with Professional Activities (PAs) varies depending on whether the postholder is on the Portfolio Pathway (formerly CESR):
* 7 Direct Clinical Care PAs and 3 Supporting Professional Activities PAs if on the Portfolio Pathway
* 8 Direct Clinical Care PAs and 2 Supporting Professional Activities PAs if not on the Portfolio Pathway
Applicants are expected to participate in a 24/7 middle grade rota, with a specialty doctor job plan anticipated and appropriate remuneration for out-of-hours work. Each applicant will be allocated a designated Educational Supervisor to develop a bespoke job plan based on educational needs.
The post is offered for a fixed-term contract of 12 months in the first instance, with possible extension subject to annual appraisal and involvement in the revalidation process. A CESR/Portfolio pathway with support for secondments and a portfolio is available for the right applicant. This post can be one of two options:
