The Role Scope
As a key member of the finance team, this role supports the Head of Commercial Finance and the Finance Director and takes ownership of key areas of the P&L including Operations and Postage & Packaging Income. The role will work closely with the Operations team to analyse and forecast key information, and to deliver business insights and efficiencies. The role will support and drive business decision making, business partnering with senior stakeholders across the business.
Role Key Responsibilities
Commercial Finance
1. Be the finance lead for the Operations team, providing support and challenge to the Ops Director and direct reports, helping to drive efficiencies and optimise c£60m of spend
2. Develop knowledge of key business metrics, especially on the Operations side, and work closely with Ops team to assess performance, opportunities and risks
3. Work with the Customer, Finance and Operations teams to optimise Postage & Packaging (P&P) income, assessing the impact of decisions on Customers and effectiveness of different P&P mechanics
4. Support capex and opex requests including new contracts / contract renewals through investment appraisal including costs / benefits
Business Planning
5. Ownership and preparation of budgets and forecasts working with key stakeholders and Directors across Operations
6. Support update and refinement of MandM’s 3 year plan
Data, Systems & Tools
7. Utilise all available data tools and datasets to enhance efficiency and decision-making.
8. Work closely with the Data team to realise data opportunities and understand granular detail, benefitting both Finance and the wider business
9. Support definition and development of the finance systems roadmap
Management Accounting
10. Ownership of key P&L lines and accountable for parts of the balance sheet having clear understanding of variances, risks and opportunities
11. Support preparation, content and distribution of Management Accounts
About You
Skills & Competencies
12. Qualified CIMA/ACCA or equivalent with 3+ years PQE.
13. Commercial Finance background is a must
14. Strong team leader who has developed individuals and managed performance
15. Able to work on own initiative
16. Excellent communication skills with experience of communicating at all levels
17. Experience with budgeting, forecasting, modelling, planning
18. Good knowledge of accounting standards
19. High level of numeracy
20. Excellent attention to detail
21. Have strong finance systems experience including analytical tools
