Overview
Mechanical Design Manager (Medical Sector). We are seeing a period of exceptional growth in our medical and scientific sector team. We offer exciting career opportunities for engineers with extensive medical product development and project management experience as part of our growing, dynamic medical and scientific sector team.
You will work alongside other exceptional individuals to develop and implement our medical and scientific sector marketing plan, including pitching to potential clients, creating detailed costed proposals and nurturing long-term relationships with key strategic clients. You will plan and manage a diverse range of medical product development projects against challenging timescales and budgets, while also taking on the technical lead role on these projects. We operate in multi-functional project teams and as a Sector Manager you will work closely with designers, mechanical, electronics and software engineers to integrate the visual and functional aspects of medical products and create class-leading designs that deliver real benefits to users.
Most of the products we design go to market and are highly visible.
Responsibilities
* Plan and manage a diverse range of medical product development projects against challenging timescales and budgets, while also acting as the technical lead.
* Lead and coordinate multi-disciplinary project teams (designers, mechanical, electronics and software engineers) to integrate visual and functional aspects of medical products.
* Work with the marketing function to pitch to potential clients, create costed proposals and nurture long‑term strategic client relationships.
* Support the development and delivery of marketing initiatives, including writing articles and delivering presentations.
* Travel to medical industry events (including international events) to represent the company.
* Guide, support and check the work of the project team; manage budgets and timescales; and work closely with the client’s project team.
* Establish and maintain strong, long-term relationships with strategic clients.
Qualifications and Experience
* 1st or upper 2nd degree in mechanical, mechatronics or design engineering, or equivalent technical qualification.
* Experience delivering medical development projects within an ISO 13485 quality framework.
* Experience in a consultancy environment is desirable; able to balance quality, cost, timescale and risk targets.
* Ability to plan, quote and manage the financial and commercial aspects of medical product development projects, including leading the technical work and selecting/organising the team.
* Ability to guide, support and supervise a multi-disciplinary project team.
* Strong problem-solving, with creative solutions to complex engineering problems; excellent verbal and written communication skills with clients, suppliers and colleagues.
* Knowledge of high-volume manufacturing processes such as injection moulding.
* Willingness to relocate to Warwick and be eligible to work in the UK.
