Overview
The Royal United Hospital in Bath is seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, highly motivated individual to manage and lead the Nuclear Medicine Physics Team, and the Clinical Services of Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT. Members of the physics team work across both the Nuclear Medicine and Diagnostic Radiology sections of the RUH Imaging Physics Group. The Imaging Physics Group is a friendly and enthusiastic team of clinical scientists, clinical technologists, and administrators. It supports scientist and technologist trainees via the NHS STP scheme and a level 6 technologist apprenticeship program. There is active involvement in research, development and innovation, including clinical trials and various internal and external projects. This role is part-time funded, with potential future opportunities to increase hours for a full-time arrangement.
Main duties
You will provide scientific leadership and direction to the Nuclear Medicine Physics Group, and provide managerial and scientific support for the clinical services of Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT. You will be an effective communicator and an inspiring leader, able to develop the teams and the services. The role requires detailed scientific knowledge and technical expertise in the use of radioactive substances and their application to healthcare. You will provide advice at the highest level within the trust on the management of radiation protection, acting in an expert advisory capacity as Medical Physics Expert for Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT. You will work closely with other Radiation Protection Advisers and Radioactive Waste Advisers in the Trust. You will also be responsible for ensuring that appropriate training in the use of radioactive substances is provided for Trust staff in line with Trust policy and legislation.

Responsibilities

Qualifications and experience
* Essential:
o Good honours degree in Physics
o Relevant approved MSc or higher degree
o On RPA2000 List of Medical Physics Expert Certificate holders
o HCPC registered as a Clinical Scientist (Medical Physics)
* Desirable:
o Certification as Radiation Protection Adviser
o Certification as Radioactive Waste Adviser
o Experience of Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT
Knowledge and experience
* Essential:
o Experience of a range of nuclear medicine imaging equipment and software
o Experience of nuclear medicine clinical procedures including therapies
o Experience interpreting and disseminating radiation regulations
o Experience in managing and motivating staff
* Desirable:
o Knowledge of transport regulations for radioactive materials
o Experience in national committees for professional activities
o Experience in presenting and lecturing
