X-ray Practice Educator Radiographer

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, enthusiastic, highly motivated and resourceful person with excellent communication and organisational skills to join our team as Band 7 Practice Educator Radiographer. You will work alongside the X-ray superintendent and other staff members to provide an effective and efficient service whilst adhering to departmental protocols and ensuring optimum patient care.
This is an exciting time to join the X-ray department at RNOH. We have recently opened a new extension to the X-ray department with an EOS, Hi‑Rise Ped CT and DEXA machines. You will have the opportunity to work on all modalities with training given where needed.
The post offers an excellent opportunity for a hardworking, experienced radiographer who would like to develop managerial, teaching, mentoring, coaching and clinical skills in cutting‑edge orthopaedic imaging.
Main duties of the job
The position will be based within the X-ray departments at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore. However, flexibility to work at our Bolsover Street location may occasionally be required as needed. The department runs an extended day, 6 day a week service, Monday to Saturday with on‑call responsibility for out of hours.
You will work closely with other members of the team including radiologists, radiographers and assistants. You will be involved in the teaching and mentoring of students and junior members of staff to oversee staff competencies and CPD.
You will be an integral part of the smooth running of the department and communicate effectively with a wide range of staff and patient groups.
You will be expected to manage your workload effectively, applying knowledge and skill to produce high quality images and adapt techniques to meet complex patient requirements and also to maintain excellent housekeeping of all imaging in X‑ray on the Trusts PACS and EPIC systems.
Job responsibilities
* Supervise and organise practice‑based learning experiences.
* Facilitate the integration of theoretical knowledge with clinical practice.
* Support trainees in developing skills, competencies, and achieving learning objectives, assessments, and necessary qualifications.
* Work with the X‑ray superintendent on monthly and weekly staffing rotas.
* Ensure housekeeping is undertaken and up to date for cleaning of X‑ray equipment, audits and dose monitoring.
* Be familiar with the range of technical applications available on all imaging equipment.
* Troubleshoot equipment faults and make suitable provision for the service in the event of equipment failure.
* Assess the clinical justification of radiography referrals, in line with national regulations (IRMER 2017) and local protocols.
* Act with delegated authority as a practitioner for plain film radiography referrals. Act as an operator under IRMER (2017) and liaise with referral source where clarification is required regarding selection of the most clinically appropriate imaging examination.
* Act as a point of advice for imaging referrers and patient enquiries regarding their referral.
* Be a patient advocate in radiation protection and safeguarding issues.
Qualifications
* BSc or equivalent in Diagnostic Radiography
* HCPC registered
* MSc in Radiography
* Evidence of postgraduate qualification for Radiography
Experience
* Significant radiography experience in the NHS.
* Significant experience of using RIS and PACS systems in the NHS.
* Significant musculoskeletal imaging experience in the NHS.
* Evidence of experience in leadership, co‑ordinating imaging or deputising in the absence of a superintendent in an NHS setting.
* Experience in clinical evaluation of technology and procurement processes.
* Evidence of audit or involvement in clinical governance.
Skills
* Ability to clearly communicate effectively.
* Good organisational skills.
* Able to demonstrate good technical knowledge and continue to develop it.
* Ability to work well with an interdisciplinary team and promote effective working.
* Awareness of clinical governance requirements.
