JOB DESCRIPTION
We are looking for someone to join our Senior Leadership Team, in being at the forefront of student engagement at our university.
The purpose of this role is to provide strategic leadership, direction, and drive in relation to the Union’s services, representation, and activities for members. This role is critical in ensuring our university is relevant to and at the heart of the lives of Westminster students. The post holder will shape a culture where students can create positive change and is responsible for ensuring a breadth of high-quality opportunities for members.
Key Accountabilities of the role are:
• Effective performance management of colleagues within the directorate.
• Effectively uphold the Union’s commitment to Liberation, Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (LEDI).
• Effectively uphold the Union’s commitment to student advice, mental health, and wellbeing.
• Effectively uphold the Union’s commitment to employability and peer support.
• Exceptional financial performance of the directorate.
• Successful delivery of relevant aspects of the organisational strategy.
• Ensuring that members are empowered to create change.
• Extensive Union engagement across the student body that is representative.
• Ensuring free and fair elections with high levels of student participation.
• Ensuring effective measures of impact for the directorate are planned and achieved.
• Maintaining impactful stakeholder relationships with the University and Quintin Hogg Trust.
• Ensuring cross-organisational collaboration on projects and initiatives.
• Ensuring an effective and constructively critical senior leadership team.
• Full compliance with related legislation and sector codes.
1. Strategy and Development
• Develop and ensure implementation of student voice and engagement plans/strategies.
• Develop and ensure implementation of peer support plans/strategies.
• Develop and ensure implementation of advice, wellbeing, and mental health plans/
strategies.
• Develop and ensure implementation of LEDI plans/strategies.
• Establish our university as an influential, campaigning organisation creating meaningful change.
• Use sector and internal research, insight, and benchmarking to deliver continuous
improvement.
• Build a strong culture of volunteer management and empowerment.
• Grow levels of participation and engagement across all activities and opportunities.
2. Leadership and Management
• Provide strategic and compelling senior leadership to the directorate.
• Achieve and maintain a platinum level leadership concerning the Investors in People
framework.
• Drive a high-performing, inclusive culture across our university.
• Set the tone in terms of effective leadership and ensuring excellent delivery standards.
• Ensure alignment between the department and the Union’s strategy.
• Enabling the team to have a clear understanding of how they contribute to the mission
and vision.
• Manage staff within the team effectively providing coaching, 1-2-1s and support.
• Effective performance management in line with the Union’s performance framework.
• Effectively manage the resources of the organisation.
• Act as Deputy Returning officer during all university elections.
• Maintain sector leading levels of staff engagement.
3. Stakeholders
• Manage long-term relationships with key University stakeholders.
• Manage long-term relationships with key members of the Quintin Hogg Trust.
• Manage important relationships with high-profile, key external partners.
• Seek and develop new stakeholder relationships that would benefit the organisation.
4. Compliance
• Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and procedures in relation to the directorate.
• Ensure that structures/policies/frameworks are in place to aid health and safety
management.
• Acting as Deputy Returning Officer for all university elections fulling requirements of the act.
5. Other
• Attend Senior Leadership Team, Board, committees, and other meetings as required.
• Support the elected Sabbatical Officers achieve their manifesto commitments.
• Be enthusiastic advocates for student leadership and the organisation’s values.
• Actively engage in student-facing projects and activities of all kinds as required.
• Be administratively self-supporting.
• Maintain own professional networks and promote our university on a local and national level.
• Undertake any other duties and responsibilities commensurate with the post.
• May be required to work some weekends and evenings.
