Job Responsibilities
* Drive and use your own vehicle to transport ultrasound equipment safely to and from sites as directed by the Operations team.
* Work cohesively with the designated sonographer during clinical sessions to ensure all patient needs are met safely and efficiently.
* Maintain ultrasound consumable stock levels and carry appropriate supplies to all sites worked.
* Manage the patient database and session list with the sonographer, recording episodes accurately, and alert the DHC patient services team of booking errors or urgent reports.
* Upload and transfer confidential patient image data in a timely manner, ensuring backup to PACS and deletion from the system hard drive when appropriate.
* Meet and greet patients pleasantly, confirm correct identification using three forms (full name, date of birth, address), and input patient data into the ultrasound system.
* Assist patients safely with transfer, dressing, and support, and act as an advocate during the scan episode.
* Keep the scan room, waiting areas, and ultrasound system (probes and control panel) clean and free from hazards, using recommended cleaning agents.
* Call the patient services team immediately following a scan for urgent or RAD patients.
* Complete the end‑of‑day report on Origami before the close of the clinical session, detailing urgent radiologist opinions, equipment breakdowns, DNAs, and other relevant information.
* Upload images to PACS at the end of each clinic and show students how to process patients on Compucare, access system links, report templates, and upload images as required.
* Ensure accompanying persons do not cause distraction or compromise patient safety during scans.
* Support the sonographer and patient when adverse findings lead to unexpected distress.
* Advise multidisciplinary staff when delays may affect patient comfort (e.g., full bladders).
* Maintain patient dignity and confidentiality, supporting the sonographer for scans of an intimate nature.
* Communicate professionally with all patients and departmental visitors, providing clear explanations and instructions regarding ultrasound examinations.
* Adhere to DHC and local site standards, protocols, and operational policies relating to the role, promoting a quality imaging service.
* Report all stock shortages and requirements to the Operations Team via Origami on the end of day, ensuring that at least two weeks’ worth of stock is maintained.
* Be prepared to work flexibly to meet service demands.
Person Specification
Desirable:
Previous experience in a healthcare or clinical setting.
Essential:
* Valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle for safe transportation of equipment.
