Job Summary
Full-TIME MEDICAL RECEPTIONIST (37.5 hours per week) at Washingborough Family Practice, a training practice in rural Lincolnshire. Position includes medical reception duties, general admin support, and coverage for sickness and holidays.
Salary dependent on qualifications and experience. NHS Pension Scheme participation. Experience with SystmOne desirable but not essential, full training provided.
Responsibilities
* Provide a positive, friendly image to patients and visitors, in person and by telephone.
* Receive, assist and direct patients to appropriate services or healthcare professionals.
* Assist in smooth running of the practice by providing clerical support to clinical and practice staff.
* Facilitate effective communication between patients, primary and secondary care teams.
* Process repeat prescriptions (paper and online) and new patient registrations.
* Perform general office duties: take messages, handle enquiries, explain procedures.
* Maintain and monitor appointment system, follow up appointments and consultations.
* Manage incoming and outgoing mail, record and allocate data accurately.
* Order and restock stationery and supplies; keep reception area tidy.
* Cover for team members during sickness and annual leave; attend meetings and training as required.
* Handle and record payment for private services.
Duties and Responsibilities (Detailed)
* Open and lock practice premises, ensuring security protocols.
* Maintain practice appointment system and coordinate personal and telephone requests.
* Processing and distribute incoming and outgoing mail.
* Taking messages and forwarding information.
* Handling general enquiries and explaining surgery procedures.
* Respond to actions requested by GPs/Nurses from post or results.
* Process repeat prescriptions according to practice guidelines.
* Computer data entry, allocation and collation; record information.
* Initiate contact and respond to requests from patients and associated healthcare agencies.
* Clear and restock consulting rooms as needed.
* Order, re‑order, monitor stationery and other supplies.
* Maintain reception area, noticeboards and leaflet dispensers.
* Assist Practice Manager and Deputy Manager with routine clerical duties.
* Attend meetings and training sessions.
* Handle and record payment for private services.
Person Specification
* Previous SystmOne experience desirable but not essential; full training provided.
* Strong communication skills, friendly and approachable.
* Ability to multi‑task and work independently with minimal supervision.
* Experience in a medical or healthcare setting preferred.
