Clinical Development Fellow in Intensive Care Medicine (2 posts)

Department of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary seeks to appoint enthusiastic individuals to train and work in the Critical Care Unit within Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary.

Suitable candidates will have completed their Foundation Programme as a minimum but no specific Critical Care training is required. This post would suit a junior doctor who wishes to gain Critical Care skills and experience as part of a training in any specialty but may be particularly suitable for those planning to enter training in an Acute Specialty.


Key Information

* Location: Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary
* Contract: 12 months from 5th August 2026
* Full‑time: up to 48 hours per week; part‑time applications welcomed.
* Ring‑fenced 8 hours per week for Development time (education, research, audit and Quality Improvement).
* Day‑time sessions in the Critical Care Unit with 1:6 resident out of hours rota participation.
* Supervision from an Anaesthetic Trainee or a Specialty Dr 24/7 with high consultant presence.


Responsibilities

* Provide daytime sessions in the Critical Care Unit.
* Participate in the 1:6 resident out of hours rota.
* Engage in education, research, audit and Quality Improvement activities.
* Spend additional time in other acute specialties, particularly Anaesthesia and Emergency Medicine.
* Assist in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students.
* Take part in monthly educational meetings and scenario‑based training.


Qualifications

* Completion of Foundation Programme (minimum).
* Background in any specialty training; no specific Critical Care training required.
* Desire and enthusiasm to develop Critical Care skills.
