Role Overview Thorn SDS is a niche Managed Service Provider, who are committed to enabling technology organisations and professionals to thrive within the Space, Defence and Security sectors. We are currently recruiting for an Architecture Lead with SATCOM experience, to be at the forefront of Defence Digital’s satellite communications systems, managing the development and maintenance of system architecture baselines across the SATCOM Engineering Design Authority (SEDA) Team. This is a senior, highly impactful role where your leadership and technical expertise will guide the architecture roadmap from the current “As-Is” state to the future “To-Be” vision. You will collaborate with stakeholders across technical, programme, and enterprise levels, ensuring SATCOM systems are coherent, future-ready, and aligned with current standards. Responsibilities Lead the SATCOM architecture team within the SEDA framework. Manage the development and maintenance of SATCOM Programmes System Architecture baselines. Lead the SATCOM architecture roadmap from “As-Is” to “To-Be.” Ensure effective control of system interfaces and interdependencies across complex systems. Translate user needs into clear, functional system designs using Use Cases. Provide architecture support across the wider SATCOM architecture and Enterprise Architecture. Capture, maintain, and assure architecture baselines in the Authority repository. Act as the key technical interface between Defence Digital Enterprise Architecture and SATCOM programmes. Essential Knowledge, Skills & Experience Military Communications Satellite Systems knowledge. Familiarity with MOD processes (KiD, GEAR). Proven experience managing technical architecture for large, complex systems. Expertise developing and maintaining architecture baselines, including interface and dependency control. Skilled in defining and using Use Cases to translate user requirements into system functionality. Strong knowledge of Satellite Communication Systems. Experience with the NATO Architecture Framework (NAF). Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, bridging technical and non-technical audiences. Desirable Knowledge & Experience Experience with architecture tools (BizzDesign preferred, Sparx EA). Knowledge of architecture modeling languages (ArchiMate preferred, UML, SysML). Full Systems Engineering lifecycle understanding (INCOSE, ISO/IEC 15288). Experience developing service architectures and solutions.
