Job Summary

OT's in CNWL are supported by a long-established professional structure including an AHP director, Trust-wide Professional Head of OT, borough and specialist Head OTs. This enables us to invest in the development of our staff by providing internal and external training and quality supervision, ensuring all our OTs reach their full potential. Main duties of the job

Band 7 OTs enrich teams and the service with their managerial and clinical expertise. We recognise this and therefore view them as staff we are committed to fully supporting in their clinical and managerial development. There will be opportunities to lead on trust-wide OT projects, shadow senior managers and develop in areas of interest.

The post holder will oversee the Tamarind team which is made up of 5 OTs, 1 OT apprentice, 4 Activity Coordinators, 2 Fitness Instructors and a Peer Support Worker. It is a busy team, integral to the day-to-day delivery of activity and therapy provision across 4 Acute Wards and 1 PICU. This is a great time to join our team as there are exciting development plans in process, providing loads of opportunity to hone skills and gain experience in service development and improvement. While leading and supervising a team and providing expert clinical care.

Job Description & Responsibilities

* Provide professional and day-to-day clinical leadership and expertise to the Tamarind Team
* Work effectively with a range of agencies and professionals supporting service users in their recovery
* Ensure interventions amplify an individual\'s self-management skills in line with recovery and social inclusion
* Be involved in the development and implementation of Ward Group Programmes
* Manage a defined complex OT caseload using evidence-based, person-centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate specialist OT treatment
* Collaborate with the Borough Head OT and other Lead OTs to promote evidence-based OT within acute roles
* Support the development of OT and Activity services at Park Royal Centre for Mental Health
* Provide training and education to OTs and other professionals on how occupation supports recovery
* Work with other Lead OTs in CNWL to develop services, including projects, audits and research
* Educate students on practice placement and mentor OT apprenticeships as required


Qualifications & Experience

Essential

* Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy
* HCPC registered Occupational Therapist
* Practice Placement Educator's Course
* Mental health specific workshops and short courses

Desirable

* Postgraduate training specific to clinical specialty
* Management & Leadership training
* PSI Training
* RCOT membership

Experience

Essential

* Significant post-qualification experience in mental health services
* Experience in audit/research projects
* Experience in leading/developing a service or component
* Experience in using standardised OT assessments including MOHO
* Experience in supervising staff; recruitment and workforce planning
* Experience in managing resources (financial, stock, equipment)
* Experience in partnership working with external providers to promote socially inclusive opportunities
* Experience in completing Risk Assessment Tools
* Experience in partnership working with external agencies

Desirable

* Experience in community mental health
* Experience in inpatient mental health
* Experience in completing PSI investigations
* Experience in managing complex HR issues (performance, long-term sickness)

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

* Individual and group work assessment and intervention
* Interpersonal skills to deal with sensitivities and complexities
* Effective leadership through projects, audits and research
* Excellent communication (written, verbal, listening) and IT proficiency
* Ability to produce timely, accurate reports
* Knowledge of personal recovery principles and OT models of practice
* Ability to work autonomously, meet deadlines and make decisions independently
* Ability to deputise in the absence of the Head OT
* Ability to prioritise workload and support junior staff
* Commitment to ongoing CPD
* Application of risk assessment and risk management to support recovery
