Within our purpose-built state-of-the-art head office based in Thorne, Doncaster, we have a 400,000sq ft plant comprising of our manufacturing, warehousing and office facilities. A recent investment of £20m set us up for continued growth into the future, introducing a new warehouse, re-mapping the assembly route and investing in our people.
We have 5 core brands which are Novus, Sheraton, Mackintosh, Chippendale and English Rose. We manufacture a made to order true rigid kitchen which is glue and dowel, along with a ready to assemble option for our customers.
We continually invest in NPD, the most recent new range introduction in 2023 saw the launch of Novus, representing Omega's commitment to innovative solutions with a focus on a handleless system and a sleek minimalist design for contemporary kitchens. We have invested in further NPD in 2024 to ensure we are offering the latest trends to our customers.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
* Monitor Maintenance requests and ensure all requests are responded to as soon as possible and dealt with by appropriate team member.
* Schedule engineering team members workloads to ensure that tasks are completed in a timely manner.
* Generate KPI reports on plant and personal performance for monthly engineering review.
* Provide daily updates to Engineering Manager on current plant status & action plans or recoveries.
* Ensure engineering team members are requesting parts when required for replenishment and monitoring critical spares.
* Ensures all processes and equipment are operating efficiently and in compliance with Health & Safety policies and procedures.
* Ensures team performance and efficiencies are achieved and maintained within stated expectations.
* Support engineering team members in problem solving for machine faults through internal escalation processes.
* Manages team absence and conduct "return to work interviews" & performance reviews.
* Covers for absenteeism as appropriate by stepping in for team members or Engineering Manager where required.
* Lead by example through personal actions and behaviours within the department. Demonstrates and fosters a strong team working culture with the team and across all departments.
* Communicates informally and formally with the team as appropriate to ensure the team is fully informed of company policies, any issues impacting the team, takes feedback from them and undertakes actions appropriately.
* Manages the team's holidays and ensure appropriate cover is maintained.
* Drives continuous improvement projects in own area and cross functionality within other areas of the business.
* Ensures all areas under their leadership are kept and maintained to a high standard of cleanliness and organisation.
* Mentor and monitor the performance of Engineering Apprentices as required to ensure they are successful in completing their apprenticeship, highlighting any concerns to management and the programme deliverer.
* Schedule external contractor visits for plant, site services, building and facilities as required.
* Responsible for ensuring contractors are working safely on site and issue correct documentation prior to works commencing.
* Drive preventative maintenance and predictive maintenance strategies through the department.
* Follow engineering training matrix and continually upskill the team members within the department.
* Ensure SAP ordering system is maintained to allow accurate detail for reporting purposes.
Key Relationships
* Within own department: Engineers - Maintain continuity by providing support and absence cover for other team members as much as feasible. The Team Leader is expected to undertake engineering/maintenance tasks within the limits of their experience and training, to cover for absences.
* Internal customers: The Team Leader will need to continually communicate with other areas within the business to ensure that plant, site services and facilities are operating without any engineering issues; which may require the engineering team assistance and provide feedback on issues raised.
* External suppliers: The Team Leader will have to communicate on a regular basis with machine manufactures and suppliers to obtain spare parts, technical assistance and engineering materials. On occasions may also require contacting them for project works.
* External customers: The Team Leader will not normally have to contact external customers but needs to be aware that the actions of the department could impact on the service given to external customers by other departments.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
* Successful completion of a full electrical or mechanical apprenticeship/and/or attainment of an appropriate electrical or mechanical engineering qualification i.e. BTEC ONC/OND or above.
* The applicant will have relevant hands on experience in a similar role in a manufacturing environment.
* Good understanding of manufacturing processes.
* Good communication skills and be capable of working alone and as part of a team.
* Good analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
* Self-motivated and able to use own initiative.
* Good understanding of health and safety.
* Must be prepared to work at heights.
* Must be able to carry out physically demanding tasks.
* PC literate, able to use Word, Excel and Outlook.

* Experience of working on wood working machinery and conveyors and CNC equipment.

* Relevant formal Safety and Team leading training or qualifications.
* Previous experience of using SAP or similar.
* PLC programming.
* LEAN Maintenance knowledge.
