PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £40,500 to £50,500 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.
This role involves working as part of a shift pattern covering 05:00 – 00:00, seven days per week.
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
BBC Wales Technology Support maintains all broadcast output across Wales. Our team is self-motivated and customer-focused, based at the UK’s most technologically advanced broadcast centre in Cardiff. We handle a wide range of systems supporting Radio, Television, and Online broadcasting. If you want to expand your broadcast engineering skills and join a cutting-edge team, read on.
Engineers may work independently or as part of a team to maintain service, often handling complex engineering tasks with limited technical information.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT
You will support current projects, troubleshoot operational faults, and repair or find alternative solutions to technical issues to ensure continuity in production. You may need to drive BBC vehicles to support different sites or OBs, provided you hold a valid driving license.
You are expected to proactively seek knowledge and training opportunities, understanding the technologies supporting BBC Wales production and transmission for TV and Radio.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
You will diagnose and troubleshoot a variety of broadcast infrastructure issues, including in Post Production, Radio Studios, TV Studios, and Galleries. A good working knowledge of Macintosh systems and experience with broadcast/IT systems in a live environment is essential.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
* Good technical knowledge of at least two broadcast systems (e.g., AVID, DIRA, AR/VR, VizRT, editing software)
* Experience in a broadcast or similar technical environment
* Experience with studio automation and robotic systems
* Experience delivering technical solutions to BAU operations
* Experience supporting Morpheus Playout systems or similar
DESIRABLE BUT NOT REQUIRED:
* Windows 10/11 administration, remote admin, IIS, Jira, PowerShell, VB scripting
* Active Directory, Windows patch management
* Networking knowledge for troubleshooting
* Understanding of health and safety, especially electrical safety in broadcast environments
