Duties:
Reporting to the Manager of Human Resources, the Human Resources Coordinator provides operational and administrative support in the delivery of a full range of Human Resources services across the Corporation. This position supports the City Departments and employees at all levels by ensuring timely, accurate, and customer-focused coordination of day-to-day HR activities and programs.
The Coordinator assists in the implementation and administration of Human Resources policies, programs, and procedures, contributing to the effective and consistent application of HR practices across the organization. Areas of responsibility include Employee and Labour Relations, Talent Attraction and Retention, Job Evaluation and Pay Equity, Compensation and Benefits Employee Learning and Development, and support for Wellness, Health and Safety.
The position serves as a primary contact for staff and management seeking initial guidance, information, and interpretation on Human Resources matters. The Coordinator exercises sound judgement and discretion in addressing routine issues, escalating complex matters to the Manager of Human Resources or the Manager of Wellness, Health and Safety. The role also contributes to continuous improvement initiatives, maintains accurate HR data and records, and supports the enhancement of HR service delivery.
In carrying out these responsibilities, the Coordinator ensures work is performed in compliance with applicable employment legislation, including the Employment Standards Act, 2000 (ESA), Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC), and Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
Guided by the City of Stratford’s Strategic Priorities and corporate values, the Human Resources Coordinator supports the achievement of organizational goals and fosters a positive, inclusive, and respectful workplace culture.
Work Performed:
* Serves as an initial point of contact for employees and managers seeking guidance or information on Human Resources policies, procedures, and programs, referring complex matters to the Manager of HR or Manager of Wellness, Health and Safety as appropriate.
* Responsible for creation and maintenance of all HR related files, including but not exclusive to employee files, labour relations files and training records, in accordance with corporate standards and legislative requirements.
* Support the Manager of HR in the creation, implementation and maintenance of HR policies and procedures.
* Support the Manager of Wellness, Health and Safety in developing and recommending Corporate Health and Safety policies and procedures and in meeting the Corporate Health and Safety requirements.
* Assist with promoting a culture of consistency, fairness and equitable processes.
* Contributes to employee well-being and engagement by creating opportunities for employee engagement and feedback, promoting inclusion, and coordinating employee learning and development opportunities.
* Assist the Manager of HR in developing and implementing a robust onboarding and orientation program for new employees and those returning from a leave.
* Supports the leadership team and Manager of Human Resources in researching, coordinating and promoting leadership development opportunities.
* Support the Manager of HR and the Corporate Leadership Team with Job Evaluation and Pay Equity processes including documentation, data collection, and maintenance activities.
* Coordinates with the Compensation and Benefits Coordinator(s) in ensuring that all employee compensation and benefit information is updated as a result of changes in employment status.
* Assists with special projects and various initiatives as required.
* Provides input on development of policies and procedures, ensuring legislated, collective agreements or best practices are followed/incorporated.Selects appropriate procedures and can design or revise procedures for accomplishing tasks within statutory and other legal requirements.
* Receives instruction, guidance, and direction from others.
Qualifications:
* University degree in Human Resources Management; or equivalent.
* Certified Human Resources, Project Management or Business Analysis Professional
* Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation, or working towards, preferred.
* 1-2 Years experience in Human Resources
Specialized Skills, Abilities, Training, License, Memberships, or Certifications
* Experience working in a unionized environment.
* Knowledge of current legislation affecting human resources, including, but not limited to, the Employment Standards Act 2000, WSIB, Occupational Health and Safety, Ontario Labour Relations Act and Ontario Human Rights Code.
* Demonstrated experience in HR systems/modules, including employee data, payroll and benefits, learning, incident management.
* Excellent consulting, communication, interpersonal, presentation, report writing, research, project management and facilitation skills.
