Responsibilities
* Performs prescribed, routine maintenance procedures on supermarket refrigeration systems and self-contained temperature-controlled merchandisers.
* Use system knowledge to match customer needs with potential service opportunities and complete rapid/accurate diagnoses.
* Manage truck inventory: order, receive, bill out, and maintain parts with a focus on minimizing waste. Maintain assigned vehicle per company guidelines; keep it clean and perform required maintenance on time.
* Complete necessary documents and electronic communication in a thorough, accurate, timely manner. Use handheld devices for paperwork and invoicing requirements.
* Ability to inspect joints with mirror/flashlight, install PVC drain pipe with minimal supervision, set/trim cases, install/adjust glass doors and frames, use temperature sensors, brazing and soldering techniques, and determine proper coil layouts in complex boxes.
* Identify pipe sizes/fittings by sight; perform refrigerant and oil conversions and test oil during conversions; electric weld various metals and joints.
* Identify, troubleshoot, and correctly size thermostatic expansion valves (TEVs).
* Understand pressure regulators related to gases, refrigerant flow controls, TEV troubleshooting/replacement, and tracing complex schematics.
* Demonstrate knowledge of low/high pressure oil systems, split condensing/low ambient controls, EMS controls, CO2 refrigeration, store startup, airflow testing, motor VFDs, defrost types, recovery setup, torch setup, compressor parameters, and parallel rack layouts.
* Demonstrate working knowledge of gauges, oil management, ECM, PSC, shaded pole and three-phase motors, and oil level controls.
* Detect and repair leaks on conventional systems and parallel racks; perform compressor diagnoses/replacements; troubleshoot and repair complex service calls.
* Mentor other technicians and lead HVAC/R PM programs.
* Additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
Formal Education
* Required: High School Diploma/GED
* Preferred: HVAC-R Technical School Degree
Experience
* External candidates: 7 years in the field or 5 years with Certification from a Technical School
* Internal candidates: 3 years as a Certified Technician with completion of OJT & Skills Assessment
Additional Information
* Valid Driver’s License with a safe driving record per Fleet Policy.
* Physical ability to walk, bench, crouch, climb ladders, work at heights, and lift/carry up to 50 pounds repeatedly.
* Excellent verbal and written communication, detail-oriented, highly motivated.
* Strong mechanical aptitude with basic maintenance tasks and hand tools.
* Available to work nights and/or weekends as required.
* Working knowledge of basic refrigeration and/or HVAC is preferred.
* Strong leadership and business acumen.
* EPA 608 Universal Certification.
* Strong decision-making and documentation skills.
