Job Title: Senior Case Officer (12 month Fixed Term Contract)
Division: Supervision, Policy & Competition (SPC)
Department: Scams, Promotions, Engagement & Perimeter (SPEP)

1. Salary: National (Edinburgh and Leeds) ranging from £53,800 to £69,000 and London £59,200 to £75,000 (salary offered will be based on skills and experience)

About the FCA and team

We regulate financial services firms in the UK, to keep financial markets fair, thriving and effective. By joining us, you’ll play a key part in protecting consumers, driving economic growth and shaping the future of UK finance services.

SPC oversees firms and individuals (supervision), creates and reviews the rules by which they operate (policy) and identifies and remedies ineffective competition in markets (competition). Sitting within the Consumer Investments (CI) directorate, the Scams, Promotions, Engagement & Perimeter (SPEP) department brings together expertise from Enforcement and Supervision to address issues across the FCA’s full perimeter, including cryptoassets, high-risk investments and consumer credit.

With a particular focus on unauthorised firms, SPEP is leading the implementation of its strategy to police the emerging UK crypto regime, taking action against unlawful crypto promotions under existing financial promotions and financial crime powers, while preparing for full regulation from October 2027 and delivering work aligned to key Public Commitments to protect consumers and markets.

Role responsibilities

7. Manage a diverse caseload of unauthorised firm investigations, prioritising effectively to protect consumers and support fair financial markets

8. Bring clarity to complex information by analysing firm activities and coordinating actions that stop harmful unauthorised conduct

9. Craft clear, concise and technically accurate communications to external stakeholders on potential perimeter breaches

10. Develop reliable partnerships within the FCA and with external organizations to exchange insights and produce unified results

11. Provide supportive, responsive guidance to colleagues across the FCA on issues relating to unauthorised business

12. Contribute your perspective to wider strategic work across Consumer Investments and Enforcement, shaping long‑term consumer protection

13. Work on cases of national significance within a specialist team, deepening your skills in serious financial misconduct

Skills required

Minimum:

15. Prior experience of handling a high volume of cases and effectively managing competing work streams, often needing quick turnarounds

16. Proven experience in developing and supporting project strategies, including identifying key risks, implementing mitigation plans and structuring projects into clear and relevant work streams

17. Demonstrable experience in managing documents and evidence, ensuring accuracy, organisation and compliance throughout the process

Essential:

18. Strong understanding of the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000, including the Regulated Activities Order and an understanding of the FCA’s structure, principles and responsibilities

19. Good knowledge of the crypto sector and FCA risk framework

20. Ability to assess complex, data‑heavy information with clarity, using sound judgement and explaining decisions confidently when needed

21. Experienced in managing a demanding workload, balancing priorities and maintaining accuracy when deadlines are tight

22. Skilled in writing clear, concise summaries, drafting straightforward documents and communicating technical points in an accessible way

23. Skilled in research, with the ability to gather, structure and evaluate information to identify next steps

24. Open to learning, taking initiative and contributing ideas to support continuous improvement

25. Effective at creating positive, collaborative relationships with stakeholders, acknowledging diverse perspectives and contributing across teams

27. Hybrid model where employees work a minimum of 40% in the office each month (expectation of 50% for senior leaders). Changing from September to a minimum of 50% in the office each month (expectation of 60% for Directors and Executive Directors)
