Summary
We’re looking for a friendly, customer‑focused Service Assistant who enjoys working with people and creating warm, memorable visitor experiences. You’ll play an active role in welcoming visitors, sharing stories about Wallington, keeping the House presentable and safe, and supporting events and daily operations as part of a supportive team of staff and volunteers.
Salary: £12.75 per hour
Working Hours: The hours advertised for this role (543.5 hours per year) is reflective of 12 months, however the actual hours you’ll be required to work for this role are approximately 324, dependent on start date. The amount of hours you work each month may vary, however your salary will be paid in equal instalments over the term of your contract.
Working Pattern: You will work three 4‑hour shifts per week, with regular weekend and bank holiday working. The House is closed in November, so you will not work during this period.
Contract Duration: Fixed term until 3rd January 2027

What you'll be doing
You’ll play a key role in helping visitors have the best possible experience during their time in the House. This includes welcoming visitors, providing friendly and helpful information, and supporting them with orientation around the property. You will share key stories about Wallington, its collections, facilities and events, helping to bring the house and its history to life.
You’ll also help ensure that the House and visitor areas are beautifully presented, tidy and safe. You will follow established safety, cash‑handling and operational procedures at all times, support events and visitor offers, and promote the benefits of National Trust membership. Working closely with volunteers and colleagues across other teams, you’ll help create a welcoming and enjoyable atmosphere for everyone. Every interaction you have will directly shape a visitor's day, so delivering friendly, confident and knowledgeable service is at the heart of this role.
