An exciting full time role has become available for a dynamic and forward thinking ophthalmic nurse/orthoptist/Optometrist. We are a busy department with a high throughput of patients.
We are looking for someone with ophthalmic experience who is able to manage the pre and post-operative nurse led clinics and play a vital role in our AMD/DMO/RVO intra-vitreal injection and urgent care services
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is keen to take on a new challenging role within the existing team. The successful applicant will be well supported by the ophthalmic team and encouraged to develop the role to its full potential.
You will have a recognised professional qualification/registration, and have at least 5 years' experience in ophthalmology
Whilst we are looking for a nurse/AHP who already has trained as injectors, we are happy to provide in-house training for interested applicants.
Main duties of the job
Work as a Specialist Ophthalmic Practitioner to undertake competency-based training in Intra-vitreal injecting and aim to be assessed as competent within 3 months.
Provide treatment (intra-vitreal injection) for a defined caseload of patients in accordance with agreed clinical guidelines/protocols
Provide education, advice and support to patients, carers, and other healthcare professionals involved in the care & treatment of AMD.
Work as a Specialist Ophthalmic Practitioner to undertake biometries and Pre and Post op care for patients requiring cataract surgery
Work as a Specialist Ophthalmic Practitioner to provide a triage service for patients that have been referred to for urgent care
The SOP will work alongside the consultant and medical team in the progression and development of ophthalmology services
Post holder has responsibility for continuing professional development and the ongoing audit and development of the role in relation to the needs of the service and will promote excellence in ophthalmic practice through the integration of expert clinical practice, acting as a resource and role model to provide clinical supervision and support to junior staff
Participate in the delivery of formal and informal teaching for all ophthalmic and allied staff groups staff
Act as resource for education and participate in regular audits
