Adecco is pleased to be recruiting for an Investigator FMIT to join Cumbria Constabulary.
This role will be based at Carlisle Police Headquarters.
It is a full-time role working on a temporary basis until at least October 2025. You would be working Monday - Friday, 37 hours per week. This role is fully office-based, with a salary of £16.71 per hour.
JOB PURPOSE
To be an integral member of Cumbria Constabulary's FMIT; investigating major and complex crime, serious and organised crime including complex non-recent abuse cases and cold cases of homicide and rape; under the direction of the Head of Crime and/or Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) team.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Work as part of a team and conduct investigations under the direction of the SIO or deputy SIO, including:
* Completing Major Incident Room (MIR) actions to identify, gather, secure, and preserve evidence and third-party material for a fair investigation and trial.
* Recording evidential accounts from victims, witnesses, and professional witnesses, following Achieving Best Evidence (ABE) guidelines where current skills and training allow.
* Conducting suspect interviews under caution, understanding current law, codes of practice, and applying experience and judgment.
* Conducting house-to-house enquiries, trace interviews, TIE enquiries, and search duties.
* Gathering, documenting, and maintaining evidential continuity of exhibits, acting as exhibits officer.
* Reviewing third-party material in line with CPIA and disclosure guidelines.
* Conducting intelligence research as per current skills, training, and system access.
* Preparing casework reports for CPS and managing case progression pre and post charge.
* Ensuring the welfare needs of victims, witnesses, and those under investigation are considered.
* Attending court or hearings as a witness if necessary.
* Conducting investigations ethically, maintaining accuracy, and upholding the Code of Ethics.
* Supporting HOLMES system investigations in line with MIRSAP and national best practices.
* Liaising with and preparing correspondence for victims, witnesses, suspects, and agencies.
* Providing expertise and acting as a reference point for major investigations and FMIT functions.
* Working extended and unsociable hours when required.
* Dealing with vulnerable witnesses and providing appropriate support.
1. Experience & Knowledge
* Experience as or working as an accredited investigator on a live investigation.
* Full driving licence holder.
2. Desirable
* Experience in statement taking, audio/visual recording, suspect interviewing, HOLMES major incident enquiry team, giving evidence in court.
3. Education & Training
* Accredited Investigator under ICIDP or previous CID Foundation.
* Desirable: PIP 2 specialist Interviewer (Tier 3), PEACE model training, Police IT system trained.
