This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing team as part of our integrated child health service, serving one of the largest populations of children in the Wessex Region. HHFT also hosts the local special school nursing team and the children’s community nursing team and paediatric psychology service.
Main duties of the job
Contribute to the provision of community services by conducting clinics in the hospital/outreach settings:
1. Ensure continuity of care for patients by liaison with community-paediatric consultants
2. Demonstrate a commitment to continued professional development in community child health
3. Engage in clinical governance activity through the clinical fora
Working for our organisation
The Community Paediatric department at Hampshire Hospitals has responsibility for a number of specific areas of community paediatric practice.
4. Developmental assessment – all paediatricians provide developmental, educational and behavioural assessments, generally in a clinic setting with the flexibility to visit pre-school settings and schools if required. Pre-school/ school observation of the child may be carried out as part of this assessment.
5. Complex neuro-disability – paediatricians provide clinic-based follow up for children with cerebral palsy, neuro-muscular disease, and genetic syndromes, as well as multi-disability working via Team around the Child meetings and liaison with allied professionals.
6. Preschool Autism assessments (including ADOS) are undertaken by all of the Community Paediatric Consultants

Training & Qualifications
Essential criteria
7. MRCPCH
8. Full registration with GMC
9. APLS or equivalent
10. NLS or equivalent
Desirable criteria
11. DCH
12. Safeguarding certificate
Experience & Knowledge
Essential criteria
13. At least 2 years’ experience in Paediatrics
14. Previous experience in community child health
Desirable criteria
15. Post graduate qualifications
16. At least 6 months experience of working in the NHS
17. Autism relevant training e.g ADOS
Skills & Ability
Essential criteria
18. Ability to communicate effectively with children, parents and staff
19. Ability to work with and lead a team
20. Understanding the importance of multi-disciplinary working in delivery of patients care
Desirable criteria
21. Demonstrate participation in audit, QI and research
22. Demonstrate ability to manage change and an understanding of the principles of service improvement
23. Teaching experience and/or qualification
