Job summary
The Cardiac Day Care Unit (Cardiac Cath Lab) is currently seeking an enthusiastic, reliable team player for a Band 3 Health Care Assistant position. The ideal candidate will have excellent clinical skills and experience working in a Cath lab area to support our friendly multidisciplinary team. The role involves providing high standards of patient care in accordance with nursing practice and Trust policies, including basic nursing care and housekeeping duties. The successful candidate will rotate through all clinical areas to meet service needs.
Our services include pre and post-care for patients undergoing procedures such as coronary angiography, pacemaker insertion, generator changes, ILR procedures, and TOE recovery. The unit comprises one Cath lab with a recovery area and a Heart Failure Unit. We also provide an Ambulatory Heart Failure service to the entire Liverpool area.
The work schedule is Monday to Friday, with rotations between the cardiac day case recovery area, Ambulatory Heart Failure Service, and within the cardiology directorate. We pride ourselves on providing excellent service with a supportive, friendly team environment.
Main duties of the job
* Check and prepare transfer trolleys and wheelchairs, including oxygen, suction, resuscitation equipment, linen, and supplies, replacing items as needed.
* Transfer patients to and from clinical areas safely.
* Prepare the clinical area before procedures, ensuring equipment functions correctly, reporting discrepancies, and maintaining supplies.
* Assist in preparing the Cath lab before procedures.
* Perform venipuncture, remove TR bands post-angiogram, record vital signs and document in NEWS charts, complete WHO checklists, and perform ECGs as instructed by registered nurses.
* Assist in cleaning clinical areas, complete daily cleaning checklists, and ensure hazards are removed, including blood products, waste, and contaminated items.
* Manage stock levels by receiving deliveries, checking items, and storing supplies appropriately. Report discrepancies and reorder supplies as needed.
* Complete documentation following local policies, attend mandatory training, and participate in performance reviews. Be willing to undertake further relevant training.
