Advanced Neurodevelopmental Practitioner Band 8A

Bromley Healthcare is the provider of Community Paediatric services in Bromley.

We are looking for highly motivated individuals to join as substantive neurodevelopmental practitioners ( Advanced Nurse Specialist/Clinical Nurse Specialist/Allied Health Professionals) on our well-established integrated care model for neurodevelopmental assessments of children and young people in Bromley up to 18 years of age.

These are new posts that been established to transform our ASD and ADHD pathways and support with backlogs and increasing waiting times.

The postholders will play a pivotal role in the assessment, formulation and support of children and young people (0–18 years) presenting with neurodevelopmental conditions including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and developmental delay.

The post holder will be part of a dynamic and experienced community paediatric team of Paediatric post holders; Associate Specialists, ASD specialists and Specialty doctors who provide the full range of community paediatric services. The post holder will have competence in the assessment, diagnosis and management in Neurodisability (ASD and ADHD).

The post can be offered on a flexible or part-time basis.


Main duties of the job

Working as part of a multidisciplinary diagnostic team, you will undertake structured assessments, contribute to diagnostic formulations, and provide high-quality feedback and post-diagnostic support for families.

This role sits within a developing integrated model of care, aligning with NICE and NHS England guidance and the SEL Community Paediatrics transformation agenda.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Clinical Practice

· Hold a caseload of children and young people within the Community Paediatrics Service, participating in the assessment and review of children with neurodevelopmental and social communication disorder conditions in line with established and agreed pathways

· Undertake assessments, including initial neurodevelopmental assessments of children and young people referred to the service with neurodevelopmental needs/social communication disorder conditions as part of the multi-disciplinary team, utilising up to date and evidence-based assessment techniques and tools, assessing information from education providers and parents/carers alongside observation of the young person. This may include specialist assessments in clinic, and observations in educational settings in addition to referral into our Complex Communication Diagnostic Service (CCDS) for ASD assessments

· Undertake comprehensive neurodevelopmental assessments using validated tools such as: ADOS-2, 3di, ADI-R, Vanderbilt Assessment Scale, Qb test analysis, structured interviews and other agreed developmental screening instruments

· Support the development of care pathways for social communication disorder conditions by reviewing current caseload, referral, assessment and review criteria to assist in developing a service that provides efficient and effective pathways

· Gather and synthesise multi-agency information (e.g. from school, early years, health, and family reports) to inform differential diagnoses

· Discuss and agree assessment outcomes with patients, carers, and other healthcare professionals, promoting health education and self-management

· Deliver verbal and written diagnostic feedback to parents and carers with sensitivity and professionalism

· Produce high-quality written diagnostic and feedback reports, ensuring clarity for families and professionals

· Provide post-diagnostic signposting of support, ensuring clear information about local and national resources

· Maintain comprehensive, accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with organisational policies

· Contribute to multi agency support around children with complex needs or vulnerability

· Provide specialist advice in keeping with NICE guidance and local guidelines around treatment options and age-appropriate care to optimise treatment of CYP with complex needs

· Ensure safeguarding of children within the service and access appropriate training at level 3 and supervision

· Advocate for children and young people with physical and cognitive disabilities ensuring that their voice is heard, and the service meets their needs

· Liaise closely with other services to provide a coordinated and seamless service for patients and support the ongoing development of care pathways for these conditions

· Review caseload, referral, assessment, and review criteria and develop a service that provides an efficient and effective pathway in conjunction with other team members

· Contribute to the implementation of audits or research findings to improve services for patients

· Contribute to the development and review of care pathways, clinical policies and guidelines


Person specification


Qualifications

* Degree or equivalent qualification in Nursing, AHP role, Psychology or Social Work
* Successful postgraduate study / training in child development, neurodevelopmental disorders and/or child mental health
* Qualification in advanced clinical assessment or non-medical prescribing


Professional Registration

* Registered Nurse (Child, Learning Disability or Mental Health) with current NMC registration OR Other relevant professional registration i.e. HCPC, Social Work England


Training

* Evidence of recent, relevant CPD
* Specific Training (from Qbtech) to interpret results of Qb Test (Quantitative Behaviour Test) and Qb Check (Quantified Behavioural Check)
* ADOS-2, CARS-2, 3Di or ADI-R trained and certified


Knowledge and experience

* Significant post-registration experience working with children and young people with neurodevelopmental and/or behavioural conditions
* Leadership or supervisory experience within a community or secondary care setting
* Experience of conducting structured assessments for children referred with suspected ASD and ADHD and provide diagnostic decisions
* Knowledge of the range of Neurodevelopmental disorders that overlap and their presentations e.g. PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance), ODD (Oppositional Defiance Disorder)
* Working knowledge of NICE guidelines, 0-25 SEND Code of Practice, and relevant legislation (Children and Families Act 2014, Equality Act 2010)
* Experience of co-production with children and young people and families
* Experience in community paediatrics, Special Schools or neurodevelopmental diagnostic hubs and working with children and young people with Neurodevelopmental conditions
* Experience in providing clinical supervision and/or leading service improvement initiatives


Specific skills

* Competence in use of structured and semi-structured neurodevelopmental assessment tools
* Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
* Excellent verbal communication skills, with high level interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively overcome barriers to communication
* Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to produce concise, impactful reports
* Evidence of clinical leadership and negotiation skills
* Demonstrated ability to lead a multi-disciplinary team


Personal Qualities

* Understanding of sensory processing differences and trauma-informed approaches
* Empathetic, family-centred, culturally sensitive and trauma-informed approach
* Flexible approach to balancing service and patient needs


Information Technology and Information Governance

* Familiarity with digital data capture systems and electronic health records
* Well established Information technology (IT) skills
* Be aware of and adhere to Information Governance responsibilities relevant to your role
