NVQ 2/3 in Health& Social Care would be an advantage.

team providing carefor patients and families, both on the Hospice Inpatient Unit and our Hospiceat Home team
The post is subject to flexible rostering (annualisedhours) and internal rotation
to meet the needs of theservice
Main duties of the job
To assisttrained nursing staff in the delivery of high standards of care in accordancewith the policies and procedures in place at Springhill Hospice and within theNursing team.

This role is based at Springhill Hospice, Rochdale.
SpringhillHospice providesthe following palliative care services to the local adultpopulation who are suffering from the effects of life-limiting and terminalillnesses:
A 16-bed Inpatientunit providing 24-hour medical and nursing care.
Hospice atHome Service - supports people whowant to end their days in their own home by providing the support and symptommanagement they need to be able to do so.
A DayTherapies Centre for up to 16 patients, 4-days-a-week, offeringcomplementary therapies (e.g. reflexology, aromatherapy and massage);creative and beauty therapies, social activities and clinical support.
CommunityService - provides specialistpalliative care and support to patients and families in their own homes
A 24-hour PalliativeCare Advice Line for patients, families, carers and health professionals.
Bereavement Support for relatives following loss.
CounsellingServices for patients, carers andrelatives, provided by a qualified therapist.
An EducationUnit - an in-house training facility for hospice staff and local health andsocial care professionals, with the main focus of training being on theSpringhill Palliative Care Education Passport' (SPCEP) which ensures that corepalliative care skills are taught to all grades of staff.

Mainresponsibilities
Ward Duties:
1.1 To work as a member of the nursing teamassisting nurses to provide a high standard of care to patients, both on theinpatient unit and within the patients own home.
1.2 Assist in general care of patients e.g.hygiene, care of pressure areas, nutritional needs.
1.3 Assist in maintaining a high standardof cleanliness.
1.4 Perform escort/chaperone duties asdirected by the trained nurses.
1.5 Inform trained staff of any change inpatients condition.
1.6 Be aware of the need to treat patientsas individuals. Maintain patientsconfidentiality at all times.
1.7 Have an understanding of the principlesof infection control and the risks of cross-infection.
1.8 Ensure correct policy for care andcustody of patients property/valuables is adhered to.
Education:
2.1 Attend mandatory training programmesand undertake online mandatory training as required.
2.2 Report to senior staff anysituation/occurrence reported to you by patients, relatives/visitors.
2.3 As required by trained staff,undertake training and be assessed on competency by Ward Sister and Seniornurses.
Personnel/Communications:
3.1 Read, understand and comply with allHospice policies and procedures, applying the principles as appropriate torole.
3.2 To be aware of individual specific responsibilities inrespect of the Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults, in relation to role.
3.3 Report to trained staff asappropriate.
3.4 Participate in the appraisal process.
3.5 Communicate effectively both verballyand written. Answer telephone correctlyand politely at all times. Referenquiries to Nurse in charge.
3.6 Be aware of procedure for evacuationof patients in case of fire. Knowemergency exits. Demonstrateknowledge to trained staff.
