Interim Director of Public Health
Starfish Search are working with a London authority to appoint an Interim Director of Public Health. This is a critical leadership role at the heart of the council, with system-wide responsibilities for improving health outcomes, reducing inequalities and delivering impactful, integrated public health services.
Reporting to the Corporate Director and working closely with senior partners across health and care, you will lead the council’s Public Health functions and act as the authority’s statutory advisor on public health matters.
Key Responsibilities
Provide strategic and operational leadership across the Public Health ensuring high-quality service delivery and alignment with corporate objectives.
Act as the system leader for population health, driving forward partnership approaches that deliver measurable improvements in outcomes and reduce health inequalities.
Lead the development and implementation of joint strategies for health improvement, protection, and integrated healthcare public health.
Provide authoritative advice to elected members, senior officers, and external partners on all matters relating to public health.
Oversee the council’s strategy, championing inclusive access and participation to support active, healthy lifestyles across the borough.
About You
An experienced public health specialist with extensive senior-level experience in leading public health strategy and delivery within a local authority or health system.
Proven ability to influence across complex systems, build trusted relationships, and lead multidisciplinary teams through change.
Strong grasp of current public health policy, health protection responsibilities, and the wider determinants of health.
Politically astute, values-driven and committed to delivering equity, innovation and high impact at place level.
Skilled in shaping strategic partnerships and navigating the interconnected world of public, voluntary and health sector organisations.
