Workshop/Transport Manager (6-Month Fixed-Term)
Hours: 37 per week (Shift Working: 06:00–17:00 Mon–Fri, occasional Saturdays with TOIL)

Pay: £19.32 per hour (PAYE) or £25.28 per hour (Umbrella)
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Workshop/Transport Manager on a 6-month fixed-term contract to oversee and manage a busy vehicle and plant workshop. This hands-on leadership role involves ensuring maintenance, repairs, inspections, and MOT services are delivered safely, efficiently, and in compliance with HGV vehicle and MOT regulations.
You will lead a skilled team, manage budgets, and deliver both operational and commercial services while maintaining the highest standards of Health & Safety and customer service.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage a team of 14 workshop staff delivering planned maintenance, unscheduled repairs, MOT testing, and inspections.
* Ensure all inspections, maintenance, and testing are carried out on time and meet legal and compliance requirements for HGV vehicles.
* Manage a workshop budget of £750k, ensuring cost-effective service delivery and commercial income generation.
* Implement policies, processes, and procedures to ensure safe and efficient workshop operations.
* Oversee Health & Safety compliance, including risk assessments, audits, and workplace safety standards.
* Deliver customer-focused services to agreed standards and timescales.
* Manage the MOT station in compliance with regulations.
* Develop and grow commercial services for external clients.
* Monitor productivity, performance, and operational reporting through IT systems.
* Handle customer complaints efficiently and ensure timely resolution.
Requirements
* GCSEs in Maths and English (Grade A*-C or 9–4) or equivalent.
* Vehicle Technician qualification or substantial experience managing a vehicle workshop.
* IOSH qualification or equivalent in Health & Safety.
* Full UK driving licence. HGV compliance awareness essential.
* Strong understanding of Road Transport Law and MOT testing regulations.
* Proven experience managing commercial workshop services and delivery of inspections/maintenance programs.

* ICT proficiency (Word, Excel) and familiarity with workshop management systems.

Desirable Skills
* Experience with fleet/workshop management systems (e.g., Tranman).
* Knowledge of compliance vehicle maintenance legislation.
