Overview
Calderdale Council’s Childrens Services Team is looking for a Senior Special Educational Needs Officer to support the statutory duties of the SEND process. The role requires a strong knowledge of the Children & Families Act 2014, the SEND Code of Practice 2015 and an understanding of how schools and other settings support pupils with SEN.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will represent the Council in making decisions that require careful legal consideration and will support the SEN team manager in influencing the delivery and effectiveness of SEN team services. Key duties include:
 * Developing and monitoring SEN team practice and supporting colleagues to meet legal duties.
 * Identifying and supporting continuous development of systems and processes across the SEN service and partnership teams, including data analysis and preparation for future inspections by OFSTED/CQC.
 * Working with and deputising for the SEN team manager to monitor and evaluate the EHCP process for children and young people, ensuring effective service delivery and meeting agreed performance targets.
 * Preparing cases for tribunal appeals and engaging with various agencies and professionals as part of the EHCP process.
Qualifications
Applicants must hold a degree level qualification or equivalent in a related field within children’s services (Education, Health, Social Care & Youth Services) and have a valid driver’s licence. A DBS check will be required before appointment confirmation.
