Economic Crime Unit Manager – Environment Agency
We are looking for an experienced leader to manage the Economic Crime Unit (ECU), part of the National Environmental Crime Unit (NECU). The ECU removes the financial benefit from criminals and works closely with national and local enforcement partners.
Responsibilities
* Lead strategic direction and operational management for the ECU, ensuring we meet obligations under the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA).
* Manage a specialist team: two Team Leaders (Asset Denial and Money Laundering Investigation), one Senior Financial Intelligence Officer, and support staff.
* Develop and deliver performance plans, motivate the team, and provide coaching to improve investigation capabilities.
* Collaborate with internal units – Investigatory Teams, Intelligence & Partnerships, Legal – and external partners such as Police, National Crime Agency and HMRC.
* Influence at a senior level, ensuring the Environment Agency’s priorities are recognised by other enforcement agencies.
* Support continuous improvement of POCA training, technical documentation and share best practice across the country.
* Respond to incident roles, providing business continuity support during operational incidents.
Qualifications
* Exceptional leadership skills with experience managing a dispersed team in a law enforcement environment.
* Strong understanding of financial investigations and the Proceeds of Crime Act.
* Experience working in the law enforcement sector, knowledge of the National Intelligence Model, and ability to build relationships with external stakeholders.
* Excellent communication, performance management and feedback delivery.
* Ability to prioritise a varied workload, work under pressure and drive improvement.
* Track record of developing capability within a team and individuals.
Working arrangements
This is a hybrid role – you will work flexibly from home and your nearest office. Regular travel across the country is required for meetings and operational duties. Incident response is central to the role; you will need to be available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident.
Interviews will take place w/c 3rd November 2025.
