Overview
The role of an Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP) is a shared initiative between the Department of Education and the Department of Health and supports the government's priority to increase access to mental health and well‑being support for children and young people. The post holder will work within the Mental Health Support Team (MHST), part of the wider CAMH service, providing Whole School Approaches alongside Evidence Based Low Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Interventions while undertaking a programme of training at Exeter University.
Responsibilities
 * Deliver evidence‑based early interventions for children and young people and parents/carers in educational settings in England such as schools and colleges.
 * Provide Low Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for mild to moderate presentations.
 * Implement Whole School Approach interventions as outlined by Public Health England and Health Education England, including auditing, consultation, staff training, and facilitating psychoeducational groups.
 * Attend all taught and self‑study days required by the education provider and work within the service on the remaining days of the week using newly developed skills.
 * Work with people from different cultural backgrounds and ages, using interpreters when necessary.
Training and Qualification
The post will start with training at Exeter University, which will likely be a mix of face‑to‑face and online study. On completion of the course (approximately one year) you will receive a graduate or postgraduate certificate from Exeter University, depending on your level of previous qualifications, and will become a fully qualified EMHP.
