The Community Therapy Team in South Cumbria are seeking a highly motivated, proactive and adaptable physiotherapist. The role is based at Kendal and involves supporting the delivery of high‑quality care to patients in the community and intermediate care beds. You will work with Occupational Therapists, Assistant Practitioners and Rehab Assistants to undertake specialist assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients with complex problems in their own homes or residential/nursing homes.
The service is an integrated community framework providing rehabilitation for patients from hospital discharge, through intermediate care beds to long‑term therapy in patients’ own homes. A comprehensive induction, supervision, in‑service training and clinical leadership mentoring are provided. Staff wellbeing is actively promoted and flexible working requests are considered.
Service hours are currently Monday – Friday 8 am – 6:30 pm and Saturday – Sunday 8:30 am – 4:30 pm on a roster basis.
Responsibilities
* Work as an individual within the community physiotherapy team to undertake specialist assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients with complex problems in their own homes, community hospital or residential/nursing home.
* Work as an autonomous practitioner, managing patients on an own caseload without direct supervision.
* Continue to develop specialist clinical skills, knowledge and experience through participation in in‑service training and specialist personal development as identified in Personal Development Plans (e.g., specialist external courses, shadowing).
* Maintain effective communication links with patients, carers and all associated professional practitioners, including the completion of accurate clinical records in line with trust and professional body codes of practice.
* Assist in the planning and delivery of team and departmental training and education sessions to further professional and personal development for staff, working with senior staff as required.
* Supervise the clinical practice of physiotherapy support staff and assistants, Band 5 physiotherapists and students.
* Participate in research and audit as requested by the physiotherapy manager.
* Be responsible for the clinical education and practice of physiotherapy undergraduates accepted on clinical placement.
The team operates from three main hospitals – Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal – as well as community health care premises including Millom Hospital, GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
