Carrier Manager

Salary: £35,000 - £45,000 DOE
Hours: Full time, 37.5 hours Monday to Friday

This role works cross-functionally with operations, sales, and account management, combining commercial analysis, supplier management, and operational oversight.
The Role
As Carrier Manager, you will take full commercial ownership of the organisation's carrier relationships, ensuring service levels are maintained, costs are controlled, and margins are optimised. You will play a key role in negotiating with carrier partners, managing contracts, and implementing robust processes to support operational excellence and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Take commercial ownership of all carrier activity, including performance monitoring and supplier management
Reconcile inbound and outbound carrier invoices, ensuring accuracy of pricing, volumes, and margins
Ensure all carriage costs are billed accurately and on time to customers
Produce monthly reporting on carriage revenue, costs, and margins, including variance analysis
Forecast shipment volumes and monitor performance against agreed carrier targets
Lead negotiations with carriers to minimise price increases and improve commercial terms
Conduct regular performance and service reviews with carrier partners against agreed SLAs
Communicate carrier pricing changes internally and externally, ensuring accurate billing
Support sales teams with pricing for new business opportunities
Identify and onboard new carrier partners to improve service, cost, or capability
Work closely with operations to implement and improve shipping processes and controls
Investigate shipment issues, returns, or damages and implement preventative measures
Ensure compliance with import and export requirements for overseas shipments
Support onboarding of new customers, ensuring shipping processes are fit for purpose
Manage risks relating to carrier performance, pricing, or operational disruption
Key Skills & Experience Required
Proven experience managing carrier, courier, or logistics partners
Strong commercial, financial, and analytical skills
Experience reconciling invoices, managing costs, and reporting on performance
Excellent negotiation and supplier management skills
Strong operational understanding of shipping and logistics processes
High attention to detail and strong problem-solving ability
Ability to build effective relationships across finance, operations, and commercial teams
Proactive, hands-on approach with a strong sense of ownership
