Cardiology
Our department encompasses an 8‑bedded Coronary Care Unit which is the PPCI Centre for Norfolk, a 37‑bedged acute Cardiology Ward, Cardiac Elective Area and Angiography suite. Our centre provides some of the latest Cardiology interventions in our 5 Cath Labs and is involved in National and International Research projects.
Role Overview
This Healthcare Support Worker (HCSW) position will be based on Kilverstone Ward – an acute cardiology ward for Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. Your role will involve nursing care for patients with acute cardiac conditions, working closely with other HCSWs, registered nurses and the multidisciplinary team (Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists).
Your primary responsibilities include delivering a high standard of individualised personal care to each patient, collaborating in a multidisciplinary setting and supporting the registered nurse in the day‑to‑day management of the ward.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist with personal care, nutrition, wound care, mobility and infection control.
* Monitor and record vital signs and support patients with toileting and hygiene needs.
* Maintain accurate documentation of care provided.
* Escalate changes in a patient's condition appropriately while maintaining confidentiality.
* Carry out duties such as measuring and recording clinical observations, helping patients wash and dress, assisting with eating and drinking, and making and changing beds.
Training and Development
Completion of the nationally recognised Care Certificate Programme will enable you to deliver safe and accurate patient care under the direction of a registered nurse. You will also benefit from a structured 52‑week development pathway designed to support your professional growth. A 2‑week induction course (1 week classroom, 1 week ward shadowing) will precede your appointment.
Work Pattern
In post, you will be expected to work shifts. Our rota covers 24 hours, 7 days a week with a mixture of daytime and night shifts. Day shifts run from 07:00 to 19:30; night shifts run from 19:00 to 07:30. You must be able to work weekends, nights and public holidays, and unsocial hours will attract appropriate payment.
Eligibility and Visa
Under occupation code 6131 this role meets UKVI eligibility requirements for a Skilled Worker Visa. The Trust can issue a Certificate of Sponsorship provided you work at least 36 hours per week, possess significant nursing/healthcare assistant experience and are positioned at Band 3 on the pay scale.
