Role Summary As a Healthcare Assistant, you will work under the guidance of registered clinicians (Practice Nurses, GPs, and Clinical Leads) to provide essential nursing support and patient care. Your role will combine hands-on clinical work with health promotion, patient education, and administrative duties, helping ensure patients receive compassionate, efficient, and safe care. Key Responsibilities Support clinical staff in the delivery of high-quality care and treatment Carry out clinical procedures including: Phlebotomy (blood taking) Blood pressure, height, weight, and BMI checks ECG recording Urinalysis and sample collection Wound care and dressing changes (as trained) New patient health checks and NHS Health Checks Flu and COVID vaccinations (with training/competency) Prepare and maintain clinical rooms, equipment, and stock levels Accurately record clinical data on patient systems (e.g. EMIS or SystmOne) Support chronic disease monitoring through data collection and observations Deliver lifestyle advice and promote self-care in areas such as weight management, smoking cessation, and diet Work collaboratively with the wider clinical team to improve patient outcomes and experience Adhere to infection control, safeguarding, confidentiality, and health & safety policies Participate in audits, meetings, and training as required Person Specification Essential: Experience working as a Healthcare Assistant (in primary care, hospital, or community setting) Relevant care or clinical qualification (e.g. NVQ Level 2/3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent) Competent in phlebotomy, blood pressure measurement, and ECGs Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Compassionate, reliable, and patient-focused Strong organisational skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team Commitment to continuous learning and high clinical standards Desirable: Experience within a GP or primary care setting Trained in flu or COVID vaccination delivery Familiarity with EMIS Web or SystmOne Knowledge of infection prevention and control (IPC) practices Understanding of QOF and primary care targets Values & Behaviours The successful candidate will demonstrate: Caring: Always putting patients first, treating everyone with dignity and respect.
