Consultant Radiologist Cross Sectional
Post based at Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, with cross‑site working across University Hospitals of Northamptonshire (UHN).
About the role
Joined in a cohesive team of 16 radiologists, providing acute and elective imaging in specialist and general radiology. Support includes emergency radiology, cancer imaging, MDTs, and covering ultrasound, CT and MR sessions.
Main duties
Work programme and job plan agreed on appointment; full‑time position with yearly review.
Provides a minimum of 1.5 SPA and the remainder DCC; additional PA for distinct NHS roles.
Participates in modality leads, speciality leads, audit and clinical governance, teaching/training leads.
On‑call commitment 1 in 14 rota: weekday 5pm‑8pm and split weekends 10am‑4pm, with one PA for on‑call.
Cover for consultants during annual leave.
Participate in weekly MDTs and departmental meetings; provide cover for specialist MDTs.
Prompt effective advice to GP and hospital doctors; vetting requests during duty.
Supervise and report for MDT, hot reporting, CT/MRI and emergency service.
Opportunity to gain sub‑specialty imaging expertise.
Teaching and Training
All Consultants expected to teach undergraduate students and postgraduate trainees.
Involves clinical supervision of postgraduates and, where chosen, additional undergraduate duties such as examiners, seminars, small‑group teaching and lectures.
Enhanced postgraduate duties include acting as clinical supervisor and educational supervisor for radiology registrars.
Participation in research activities, audit and quality improvement.
Person Specification
Experience of Audit and Quality Improvement
Experience of Teaching Junior Staff
Experience of Undergraduate Teaching
Experience in Curriculum development and delivery
Effective team worker and team leadership skills
Experience delivering organisational change
Publications or presentations at national level
Research experience relating to quality improvement
Basic medical qualification (MB ChB/MBBS or equivalent) and FRCR equivalent
Sub‑specialty cardio‑thoracic training and NHS experience
Competency in supervising cardiac imaging lists
Completion of CST or equivalent, or within 6 months of achieving it
At least 2 years working in radiology in NHS
High level organisational skills
Communication skills

Salary
£109,725 to £145,478 a year, pro rata.
