Job overview

• Automate reporting processes, reducing manual workload, improving data quality and increasing efficiency

• Experience in data interrogation and data linking, being able to analyse large, complex data sets from multiple clinical systems and data warehouse to produce accurate and robust reports

• Act as a highly motivated and self-directed professional, combining excellent communication, analytical and leadership skills to influence decision-making and support service improvement initiatives.

This role requires advanced expertise in the development and maintenance of reports and dashboards using Microsoft Power BI, with the ability to translate and present complex analytical information in a clear, accessible and actionable format for a wide range of shareholders. The post holder must demonstrate advanced T-SQL proficiency, including querying, joining, aggregating and optimising large, relational data tables, as well as designing and developing robust ad hoc datasets to support operational and strategic reporting requirements.

Main duties of the job

·Responsible for developing, supporting and maintaining the extraction of data from Trust Clinical Systems and Data Warehouse

·Being able to work on a number of different projects simultaneously and independently that will vary in scale and complexity and take all necessary decisions to see projects through to a highly satisfactory conclusion

·Provide and receive highly complex, sensitive or contentious information and be able to present them using advanced analytical skills in such a way that shareholders without an informatics background can understand.

·Have the ability to influence people with different perspectives to get the most out of shareholders relationships.

·Lead the continuous development of various analytical methods, ensuring consistency and best practice across the team.

·Provide expert advice to the team, department and wide-Trust colleagues.

·Proactively identify data issues and working collaboratively with other teams to implement sustainable improvements.

·Deputise for the Analytics Engineering Manager as required, representing the team at senior meetings with internal and external shareholders.

·Support the Analytics Engineering team through mentoring, training and promoting a culture of continuous professional development.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Staff Management, Support and Development

1. Support the Analytics Engineering Manager in mentoring, coaching and developing junior staff, developing technical skills in areas including T-SQL and Microsoft Power BI.
2. Provide expertise and guidance across the Information Department, acting as a senior point of contact for complex analytical queries.
3. Lead on project and assignments, monitoring progress and ensuring delivery to agreed deadlines and quality standards.
4. Ensure adherence to internal SOPs and documentation to maintain consistency, governance and auditability across the Analytics Engineering team.

Financial Management

7. Ensure Trust resources are used appropriately and effectively

Analysis and Judgement

·Analyse and translate highly complex datasets to identify trends and risks, providing expert interpretation to inform shareholders using automated reports or dashboards.

·Lead in Trust-wide projects, often managing multiple jobs simultaneously across different data systems.

·Show own initiative to tight deadlines where there are often conflicting requirements and requests for support from various shareholders.

·Exercise independent judgement when interpreting data, determine appropriate methodologies, assumptions and analytical approaches.

·Have a keen eye for quality assurance and be able to perform rigorous testing on both your own scripts and the scripts of others.

·Assess data quality issues, investigate and identify corrective actions to ensure reports and dashboards display accurate, validated and reliable information.

·Develop reporting processes to support both internal and external Data Assurance and Information Governance requirements.

·Lead the design and implementation of new and improved analysis and reporting streams.

Leadership

·Represent Analytics Engineering team at internal and external meetings independently, being able to take actions without the supervision of senior staff.

·Facilitate or chair meetings with shareholders and act as a senior representative for the Analytics Engineering Team, ensuring decisions are taken in the Trust’s best interests.

·Demonstrate autonomy and initiative, making decisions and judgements related to each assignment or project proactively.

·Make autonomous decisions regarding prioritisation of workload balancing demands and organisational pressures.

·Manage own workload, making informed decisions in the absence of required information, working to tight and often changing timescale ensuring work is completed to a high standard within given deadlines and delays are fully communicated.

·The post holder will have to plan, document and prioritise their own work in a proactive manner.

·To cover work, as directed by the Analytics Engineering Manager for other members of the team in periods of reduced capacity - i.e. Annual leave/Sickness - as appropriate to the grade.

Communication and Relationships (Internal/External)

·Develop and maintain effective relationships with colleagues across Performance & Information, Digital Services and operational teams, as well as external shareholders, suppliers, and partners.

·Represent the Analytics Engineering team by maintaining strong networks, contributing to meetings and providing advice, guidance, and leadership that supports delivery of the team objectives.

·Present complex analytical findings to senior clinical and managerial audiences in a clear, concise and accessible manner, adapting communication style to suit the audience.

·Communicate technical concepts, data limitations and project risks effectively to non-technical shareholders to support informed decision-making.

·Contribute to multidisciplinary project groups, representing the Analytics Engineering team and ensuring analytical considerations are incorporated into service developments.

·Foster a culture of openness, professionalism and collaborative working within the team and across the wider Trust.

Governance and Data Assurance

·Contribute to working collaboratively with colleagues to ensure that effective governance arrangements and performance management systems are in place.

·Contribute to working collaboratively with colleagues to address complaints and incidents appropriately – lead the learning from such events to ensure that learning is achieved across the department.

·Lead the development, maintenance and governance of comprehensive test and validation plans for reports, dashboards and data extracts, ensuring outputs are robust, quality assured, fully auditable and aligned to organisational and national standards at implementation and through ongoing review.

·Take overall responsibility for monitoring data outputs for accuracy, consistency and integrity, proactively identifying anomalies, leading investigations into root causes and implementing corrective actions in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.

·Ensure all work complies with Information Governance requirements, Data Protection legislation and Trust policies, including when working remotely.

·Follow Trust Health & Safety policies and safe remote working practices as applicable.

15. Experience developing and maintaining automated reporting solutions (including Visual Studio or equivalent tools) and interactive dashboards using Microsoft Power BI, including complex DAX calculations.
16. Experience in system testing, quality assurance, validation and structured problem-solving.
17. Experience leading analytical input into complex projects, managing multiple projects simultaneously and independently.
18. Experience presenting complex, sensitive or contentious information to senior clinical and managerial shareholders.
