Post Summary
The post is a 12-month locum Consultant ENT Surgeon (full time 10 Practitioner Assistant, 10 PA) at Aintree University Hospital. The appointee will support the ENT Department, contribute to service development, and participate in teaching and training programmes.
Employment Details
Location: Aintree University Hospital. Term: 12 months initially with possible limited extension. Friday and weekend on‑call duty as part of the on‑call rota, and participation in end‑of‑day elective duties.
Responsibilities
* Support the ENT team and contribute to the development of services within the department.
* Participate in the on‑call rota for daytime emergencies and out‑of‑hours coverage, including weekends and bank holidays.
* Contribute to the department’s active teaching and training programme at post‑graduate specialist registrar and nurse specialist levels.
* Provide expert clinical opinion on all ENT problems.
* Lead, support and monitor rapid access and 2‑Week Wait clinics.
* Run and manage multidisciplinary courses and conferences.
* Undertake management activities and strategic planning within the department.
* Participate in clinical audit and research activities, and publish results.
Minimum Qualifications
* Fellowship of a Royal College of Surgeons (UK) or recognised national equivalent.
* Full registration with the General Medical Council.
* FRCS (ORLHNS) or equivalent.
* MBBS (or equivalent) and full GMC registration.
* Eligibility for specialist register in Otolaryngology.
* Advanced Microsoft Office skills.
Desirable Qualifications
* Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in ORL‑HNS or within 6 months of attaining one.
* Experience managing rhinology or otology patients.
* Experience in rapid access clinics or 2‑Week Wait services.
* Airway and voice experience.
* Experience in teaching to medical and nursing staff.
* Leadership, management or advanced communication course attendance.
* Evidence of research, publications or awarded higher degree (e.g., PhD).
* Strong communication skills and leadership qualities.
* Adept at working under pressure and organisational time management.
Additional Requirements
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access).
* Willingness to undertake responsibility and work as part of a multi‑professional team.
* Understanding of NHS management structures and principles of Clinical Governance.
* Understanding of NHS financial arrangements.
* Excellent strategic planning and judgement under conflicting pressures.
* Experience working in a busy tertiary centre and multidisciplinary teams (e.g., Thyroid, Head and Neck, Skull Base).
