We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic Examinations Officer to join our University Technical College (UTC).
The UTC opened in September 2013 in facilities that support the specialism of Computer Science and Engineering. The UTC is in its 11th year since opening and the education provided is a new approach to educating 14-19 year olds; which is possibly the most exciting change in the education landscape in decades.
Students at UTC Reading specialise in either Engineering or Computer Science; at 14 they will also study a broad and balanced curriculum and at Post 16 the curriculum becomes more specialist with various A levels Stem subjects. In addition, students can study a specialist BTEC Level 3 course in Engineering or IT to extended diploma. At capacity, we will be educating 500 students who will all have a passion for Engineering or Mathematics; it is a truly inspirational environment.
The main purpose of this role is to manage the operation and delivery of support services within the school relating to the examination process. This includes, but not limited to:
* Liaising with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including students, parents, Heads of Departments, Heads of Years, teachers, reception staff, site staff, IT staff and awarding organisations
* Keeping up to date with the necessary policies, procedures, rules and regulations laid down by the different examination bodies. Being aware of examination changes each academic year.
* Overseeing all arrangements for all public examination entries for KS4 and KS5. NB there are currently no public examination arrangements at Key Stage 3, but if the government reintroduces these, they would also fall within the remit of the post.
* Liaising with Heads of Year and Heads of Department to ensure appropriate timetabling and invigilation arrangements are in place for the school's internal/Mock examinations.
* Managing invigilators; This includes training new invigilators and updating existing invigilators on rules and regulation changes on an annual basis and ensuring proper examination invigilation of the examinations is put in place.
* Updating examination-related policies.
* Contingency planning.
* Managing the examination entry process, including gathering information from teaching staff to ensure that students' examination entries are made correctly and on time, making amendments/withdrawals etc.
* Managing the examination preparation process. This includes preparing examination timetables for students and staff; creating seating plans for each examination room; receiving, checking and securely storing confidential examination materials; administering internal assessment etc.
* Ensure that pupils are given all the necessary relevant information about examination entries, the dates and times of the examinations, conduct during examinations and the collection of results and certificates and that this information is given in good time.
* Supporting the process relating to access arrangements (for example, supporting the SENDCo in making applications, rooming, training invigilators, managing emergency access arrangements etc.)
* Managing examination days in accordance with awarding body regulations, including preparing for each exam day, starting an examination, dealing with emergencies, irregularities and malpractice, ending the examination, collecting the examination scripts and packing and dispatching examination scripts promptly and appropriately
* Deal with issues relating to appeals, remarking and other administrative issues such as pupils who miss examinations through illness or who require special consideration.
* Managing examination results. This includes accessing results electronically/downloading results from awarding body secure sites and preparing for results to be disseminated to each student/candidate
* Work in liaison with the nominated member of the Senior Leadership Team to provide information related to public and internal examinations in a format which is easily accessible so that effective examination analysis can take place immediately after results have been received and processed.
* Dealing with requests and administering post-results services
* Oversee the appropriate dissemination of public examination results to the DfE and check published figures for accuracy.
* Issuing examination certificates

UTC Reading is heavily focused on engineering and computer science, providing a high-quality curriculum in co-operation with industry partners. The school works closely with a number of external bodies such as the University of Reading, Microsoft and Network Rail. This is intended to ensure that students are able to maximise their employability and relevance in the modern workplace. Although engineering and computer science are the main focuses of the school, UTC Reading does still offer a strong wider curriculum with subjects such as humanities and languages.
