Job Purpose To support the Science Department by preparing, maintaining, and organising equipment, materials, and resources to ensure a safe, efficient, and stimulating learning environment for students across all science disciplines. Key Responsibilities * Prepare and set up equipment, chemicals, and materials for science lessons and practical experiments across Biology, Chemistry and Physics. * Ensure the safe storage, handling, and disposal of chemicals and other hazardous substances in line with COSHH regulations. * Clean and maintain laboratory equipment, glassware, and work areas after practical sessions. * Monitor and maintain stock levels of chemicals, consumables, and equipment; place orders as required. * Support teachers during practical lessons by demonstrating equipment use or supervising groups of students when appropriate. * Assist with the preparation of displays, teaching aids, and resources to enhance learning. * Keep up-to-date records of equipment maintenance, safety checks, and risk assessments. * Ensure all laboratories, prep rooms, and storage areas meet health and safety standards. * Work collaboratively with staff to develop new experiments or improve existing resources. Person Specification Essential: * Practical skills and experience working with scientific equipment and materials. * Strong understanding of laboratory health and safety practices (including COSHH). * Good organisational and time-management skills. * Ability to work independently and as part of a team. * Reliable, flexible, and proactive approach to supporting teaching staff and students. Desirable: * Relevant qualification in Science (A-Level or higher) or a related technical subject. * Experience working in an educational environment or supporting young people. * Knowledge of laboratory management systems and up-to-date safety regulations. Working Hours Typically term-time only, with hours aligning to the school day (exact hours negotiable). Some flexibility may be required to support after-school clubs or special projects
