A growing construction business based in the London area is seeking a Trainee or Graduate Assistant Site Manager to join a new industrial new-build project in Sutton. Job Description
The Trainee / Graduate Assistant Site Manager works closely with senior site management to ensure the smooth running of construction activities on site. The role involves supporting the planning, organisation, and supervision of building works, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards, quality requirements, and project timelines.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Assist in the day-to-day management of construction sites, supporting senior managers in coordinating site operations.
Help monitor work progress, quality, and health and safety compliance on site.
Support the scheduling and delivery of materials and resources to meet project requirements.
Contribute to maintaining clear communication with subcontractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
Assist in the preparation and updating of site reports, records, and documentation.
Participate in site inspections and risk assessments under supervision.
Help manage and resolve minor site issues, escalating where necessary.
Learn to interpret construction drawings, specifications and method statements.
Ensure that work complies with relevant building regulations and company standards.
Desired Qualifications
Valid Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card.
Site Supervisors’ Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) certification or willingness to obtain shortly after appointment.
Full UK driving licence.
Previous experience in Construction or related degree.
Education and Experience
Relevant academic background in construction, civil engineering, or related discipline preferred.
Previous work experience or internships within the construction industry are advantageous but not essential.
Knowledge and Skills
Understanding of construction site operations and health and safety requirements.
Ability to read and understand technical drawings and construction documents.
Good organisational and time management skills.
Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
Problem-solving aptitude and a proactive approach to learning.
Basic computer literacy, including proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Working Conditions
The role is full-time and based primarily onsite in Sutton, Greater London.
Work involves exposure to outdoor elements and typical construction site conditions including noise, dust, and manual handling.
Wearing appropriate personal protective equipment is mandatory at all times.
Some flexibility in working hours may be required to meet project demands.
